We were lucky enough to see 2 Coopers Hawks released back into the wild today. Both of the birds were rescued by O.W.L. Rehabilitation, one had flown into a window and the other was shot and had an injured foot. After getting the attention they needed they were released back into the wild in the area they were found.
I received a message this morning from a friend that works at OWL asking if I wanted to come out for it, and I wouldn't have missed that for the world! Thanks Kameko for sharing such a special moment.
This is the second of the two releases, the Hawk took a moment to look around before taking off and spreading her wings....
excuse the poor quality taken through the kitchen window cause U knew if I went outside it would be gone

I think this one was injured. You can kind of see it by the way it is perched. it had been stalking bird feeders and going after the song birds
I believe it is a Cooper Hawk. This bird came to visit our backyard one weekend. Two of my neighbors have bird feeders and since Hawk feed on bird this one positioned itself so that he could keep and eye on both feeders at the same time. Hope you like the photo.
This is one of 4 Cooper's Hawks that were born in our nearby woods...this was back in September & while I don't get a visit anymore I see them around...such a cool Raptor!!!
Cooper's Hawk in backyard standing on feeder. It is one half of tag-team that takes turns looking for doves at feeder. Other raptor is a Red-shouldered Hawk.
Mini Cooper Utility Vehicle
Around lunch time today I wandered down to our local bakery. As I crossed the carpark behind the shops I spotted this rather unique Mini. I haven't been able to find out much about them other than that two were created by Motorline BMW in Brisbane back in 2011. This one has a badge from a Melbourne Performance Tuning Specialist and is a long way from home as it has Western Australia registration plates.

This Cooper's Hawk swoops into the yard just about every day scattering all the birds and squirrels. He stalks and chases the birds that try to hide in the bushes, but mostly he just hangs out for a while and then leaves. I've only seen him catch one house sparrow in all of his surprise attacks. I took this photo through a sliding glass door just as it was beginning to snow. There were far fewer snow flakes in this cropped version of the original, so I added a few additional flakes.

I took a bit of a departure in my birding effort today. I left the crib today intent on finding only one specific bird! This is it!!! The first Coopers Hawk nestling I've found away from the nest for this year! It was hopping and flitting from branch to branch! And squawking to be fed!
Someone said something once about 'seek and ye shall find!'

I am actually not sure if it is Cooper’s Hawk . I don’t know very much about birds, so please let me know if this is somebody else.
So this is like a slightly more updated version of this. My concept is similar obviously, but it's more current I guess. The thing is that by next Friday the whole college application thing is over, since they'll all be due, and cooper will also have made a decision about my hometest. So I guess I'm equally scared, but so much more excited to think that I'm finally moving on. So I guess to me this is my own version of new horizons, and leaving behind the past, because after this week the future I've dreamed about will be finally decided. Also if I'm straight up accepted or denied then I'll post the rest of my hometest soon.
