An adult male perched on a low branch next to the Vine St. Expressway verge
This is the neighborhood Cooper's hawk who is getting a bit hungry. It is coming to my stick and branch pile more often now trying to catch a small songbird, dove or cowbird by surprise so it can get an easy meal. So far it hasn't been successful that I know of in my yard, but perhaps in another. Meanwhile the birds continue to enjoy the seed, peanuts and pieces of fruit that they find in the pile.
In this photo, it is adjusting its stance to prepare to take flight.
I was lucky to find this hawk today. You can't control where the birds land and this one was perched right in the shadow of the tree trunk. Then it took off and flew low over the ground searching for prey.
While I was watching the air show from my backyard, a Cooper's Hawk was also flying around the hood.

This is a Cooper's hawk, it landed on the tree about 3 ft. outside my front window. I stealthily took photos of it so as not to frighten it away.
I'm doing a lot of bird watching from my windows since it's the middle of winter and we're STILL in a pandemic.
Backyard visitor this morning, checking the bird feeders. Click to zoom and pan. Look at those talons!
Saw this one taking a pass at some green herons the last week or so. This is not a very big bird, so was surprising. A Belted King Fisher was getting away from it today as well.
Blue hour on the Cooper River Bridge public bridge walk. This bridge is beautifully designed, the public walk way offers some great views of the Charleston SC area.

Another frosty morning yesterday's a. chance to grab a. couple of melting frost shots at coffee break. The frosty bracken fronds were the closest thing to where we were working , and gave . wonderful sparkly subject. A Heart Disease Called Love is by John Cooper Clarke.
An old barn in rural Cooper county Missouri, on 87 highway between Interstate 70 and California Mo. I have passed by this old barn many times while traveling to and from Columbia but could never get a shot of it because the farmer keeps the gate locked, or I was in to much of a hurry to stop. When I drove by a few days ago, I was finally able to stop and take some shots of it. Wonder what he'd think if he happened upon this photo on flickr? : ) Hope you all are having a great week! One of innumerable beautiful beaches in New Zealand's far north. Coopers Beach lies in Doubtless Bay on North Island's northeast coastline.
I was walking across the street from my mailbox today and when I looked up at my house my coopers hawk was sitting on my roof directly over my front porch. I kid of pretended I did not see it and slowly made my way into the house to get my camera. We spent a good half hour together
and this time he or she gave me a nice in flight capture. If this is the same bird that I have been seeing regularly for nearly a year now it seems to be getting comfortable with me and seems to not be spooked by my presence at all. Today it actually towards me landing so close I could not focus on it. This shot looks like I am shooting with a flash but it is just the sweet light of a spring like winters day here in the great pacific northwest.
