Coopers Hawk with a nice little duckling meal in his talons. At Black River Riperian Trail in Renton, Washington.
12-23-10 Green Cay Wetlands near Boynton Beach, FL ... We don't seem to see many Juveniles of the Raptors so I was happy when this guy landed on a snag. You can tell he's young by the streaking on his chest. An adult would have a more barred chest, similar to the Red-shoulderd Hawk.
Academy Award®-winning actor Gary Cooper starred in the 1942 Oscar®-winning film "The Pride of the Yankees," which told the story of legendary baseball player Lou Gehrig. Cooper received an Oscar nomination for his leading performance as Gehrig in the film. "The Pride of the Yankees" will screen at the Academy Theater at Lighthouse International in Manhattan on Monday, April 18, 2005, as part of the Academy's monthly screening series "Monday Nights with Oscar."
Coopers do a lot of things right as a brewery and a thriving business. It seems the family (whose beer shares the same name) have returned to the good ol' days of horse & cart deliveries... an eye-catching market ploy, perhaps... or maybe their running the plant on bio-diesel from horse manure?
Looked out back and there was a Cooper's Hawk
standing on the deck (only about ten feet distance.)
I ran, got my camera and was able to fire off a couple
of shots before he bolted.

After 24 free concerts at the Tower Grove Farmers' Market, Harvest Sessions 2008 came to a grand, autumnal close with three critically acclaimed artists: Rough Shop, Cooper-Moore and Grace Basement. This final concert of the season was presented by KDHX and The Whitaker Foundation.
Featuring John Wendland, Andy Ploof and Anne Tkach, Rough Shop recently released Here Today, their first album as an acoustic trio. The Riverfront Times' Christian Schaeffer praised the band's ability to "mix tradition and idiosyncrasy in a comforting and compelling fashion."
Teacher, philosopher, instrument maker and radical innovator, Cooper-Moore has been on the cutting-edge of jazz since the 1970s.
Fronted by multi-instrumentalist (and notably ace fiddler) Kevin Buckley, Grace Basement veers between grungy basement experimentalism and romantic folk.
Saint Louis Belly Dancers entertained market shoppers during intermissions between musical acts.

I spotted one of the accipiters yesterday chasing off a buteos! Probably the Swainson's hawk from the other day. They were too far away for even a poor shot, but not so far away that I couldn't recognize the Coopers call as it gave chase! Today, the Coopers was good enough to show itself in bright sunlight!

A shot of a large portion of the upper quarry face. This was taken from atop a smallish (about 3m high) spoil heap near by.
One of several shots of the quarry at Coopers Hill. This is one of a number of quarries in the Cotswolds that supplied the local (famous) 'Cotswold Stone'. It's an oolitic limestone.
