My husband and I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary at The Great Reno Balloon Race 2011 ... (His gift to me!) An enchanting performance by the Dawn Patrol preceded the mass ascension launch of nearly 100 balloons. Truly a spectacular and memorable event.
Using a flashlights to navigate through the early morning darkness, we found a spot beyond the crowds to set up our tripod and capture this contrast.

Contrast in photography is often thought of as the difference between light and shadow, but contrast can be much more. Some examples; fast/slow, sharp/soft, straight/curvy, long/short, light/dark, colour/no colour, hot/cold, black/white, the possibilities are endless, have fun!!

last week i didn't even know there was a thing called "colour contrast" .... did you? now i know that yellow and blue is a very strong colour contrast... apparently its one of the strongest.

Today I wandered into radiology and they were preparing for a barium swallow study. Basically these are different food textures and consistencies (think applesauce vs. water) mixed with barium so that the food shows up on the video x-ray fluoroscope. Typically this study is done in patients who have difficulty swallowing due to stroke or recent neck surgery.

Intention: To capture the lines on the moped and in the mural
Reading: "Lines and moments often get overpowered by color" Duchemin
Outcome: I am pleased with the outcome. The curved lines of the mud contrast with the angels of the bike.
Edits: Converted to black and white, increased contrast, decreased highlights and shadows.
Cyril Kensie's beautiful Bedford OB was a star vehicle - its projecting nose design contrasting with an MAN / Neoplan Starliner, which also has a projecting nose, of a sort!

I usually don't go for such high contrast in my photos but this one not only made me use high contrast but also broke my photo posting queue. This one is fresh from last night.
