For some, reeds and flowers come and go. Yet, when you add snow and soft sunlight, you have an impressive mix of high contrast and soft shadows. The sun was setting late afternoon but was softened by the high clouds of the oncoming winter storm. If you look closely, you can see the long, soft shadows of the reeds and flowers flowing to the left. It's not often that I'm able to mix high contrast, texture, and soft shadows into a single photograph.

Porsche 911 Turbo 2008.
Contrasting colors usually are the most eye catching in paintings and in photographs as well. This Porsche Turbo is customized with upgraded 2009 model tail light design, silver grilles and silver lining under the side mirrors.
Two off camera flashes were used to light the Porsche and triggered by Pocket Wizard Plus II units (Canon 580EXII).
More Porsches coming soon =)

The desert is a study in contrasts - greenery and bare trees, parched rock and snow-capped peaks, endless variations of color. Taken in the Canyonlands near Moab, Utah, and Jeff Clow's Dirt Cheap Photo Tour.
Iceland is a land of extremes in many ways... and contrasting conditions are around every bend. This was a little side road in Þingvellir (Thingvellir)National Park, not far outside of Reykjavik. The flat grass-less land allowed for a quick transformation into a white landscape, even with only a dusting of snow across the moss.
I so need to get out and shoot some new stuff! We are back to cold weather here in New England with a lot of wind. Hopefully it's going to warm up a bit for the weekend!!
Playing around with contrast here in this shot
Well, I have started using textures since my camera was out of order. This is another photo from my archives that I decided to edit. Hope you enjoy it! :)
The greatest thing about black and white images for me is how much you can push the contrast - and in certain places along the tone curve.
Nicole is wearing a red dress in this image, on a green leafy backdrop which instantly gives us a lot of possibilities in post-production for adjusting the luminosity values of those colour channels.
I've also treated this one with what I call "Australian rules B&W conversion" after Melbourne photographer Peter Coulson who does this quite often in ACR/Lightroom. It involves maxing out the contrast, shadows and blacks and then dealing with the image by adjusting the mid-tones (exposure in Lightroom). Doing this on a colour image results in some pretty wild colours but on a B&W - it can really make them pop.

Blue and orange, light and shadow, sun and rain, sky and earth, land and sea, day and night, so many complementary contrasts in one photo.
I bought a film that expired in June 1971 a few months back: Kodak High Contrast Copy Film. This type of film was used to record documents, well before the days of photocopiers.
Anyway, I had no idea how it would turn out, or if anything would turn out. This film was more than 43 years out of date!
I ran it through my old trusty Canon AE-1 SLR and had it processed at Walch Optics in Hobart. Even the process wasn't used in this day and age - as far as I know, they had to do some experimentation to get it to work.
finally I got the film back. It was horribly under-exposed, but there were a few gems in there - this is one of them.

I've no idea what this street art represents but the differing colours of the same art design, bring contras to each!

I was wandering in the streets of the old village of Contes when the vibrant colors of this shutter caught my eyes. I loved this strong contrast, typical of the architecture in the south of France.
I'm very busy....I'll replay you as soon as posible.
Thank you for understanding!
