Edits from my last post to the official discussion thread discussing flickr’s censorship:
Stewart’s recent statement seems to distance the company from the concept of being a community – in contrast to every utterance I’ve ever come across from the flickr machine. There’s not much choice left in this move, the community image has been smashed. On the one hand we had been sold a website that tried to promote itself as a community yet on the other we were now being treated with complete disregard. However much silence and stark statements could satisfy flickr’s legal team, that policy destroyed any credibility that flickr had in promoting its ‘community’ rather than commercial ideals.
Flickr has made much of the fact that censorship was not its intention, however that was already immediately clear to many people. The fact of the matter is that censorship is the very real outcome of flickr’s actions. It is flickr’s willingness to accept this outcome, installing censorship where there was none, that is so offensive to many people. If flickr chooses to dispute the phrase ‘where there was none’ and maintain that the legislation in Germany (or elsewhere) is genuinely restrictive then what flickr is doing is ‘collaborating’, which is equally offensive.
We are living in an age where companies prosper by proclaiming their social and environmental responsibilities…Yahoo! shareholders must be asking how on earth flickr could consider operating in a manner that was so unethical that it would alienate its market…
I would also add that the best PR advice when faced with genuinely stringent laws would be to take the high ground of a campaigner against censorship bemoaning the fact that the new flickr interface was ‘banned’ in Germany – a PR dream, and imagine the pride people would have in being part of flickr’s noble stance (so unlike today…). Some people will suggest that it’s the job of the electorate to change the laws, not that of a money-making corporation – Yahoo! shareholders will tell you that those people have missed the point; it’s immaterial if a company’s ethical stance achieves any real change but it does have to be seen to care (or protect its image by staying well clear of any situation where it could be seen not to care).
I’ve opened an account at ipernity mainly to keep in touch with friends who cannot stomach being a member of flickr, but I will be staying here too because the technology of the interface is better, most of my friends are here and most importantly I’m cynical enough to believe that wherever I go the ideals will be no higher than those of flickr.

Stonebridge - The Western Wall is the first Medieval themed collaborative between Ferdinand Tunnelley (brother) and myself. We tried to use as many different techniques as possible throughout the build which stretches over two large grey baseplates. We started the build by raising the ground by one brick and landscaping with many different coloured plates, creating a rough idea in our heads where each feature was to be placed. After building what we could, a Bricklink order later secured the MOC with us being able to add minifigures and dark trans-blue studs for the water.
Enjoy browsing through the photos, if you wish to see more go over to Ferdinand Tunnelley's Flickr as there are different photos there too. The link to his account is below.

My regular collaborator Lego Monster is currently working on a minifig scale model of USS Intrepid, a WW-II Essex class aircraft carrier. He has asked me to design the aircraft to go with it. The first I am working on is a TBF/TBM Avenger torpedo bomber.
When I decided to build a US Navy Wildcat fighter a while ago, I considered building an Avenger, but decided against it because I feared there were too many features that I wouldn't be able to capture in minifig scale. Of course, those are exactly the sort of things I am running into now. The cockpit windows can open and a minifig will fit inside when they are, but not when they're closed. There's also no room for a figure in the gun turret or in the aft cockpit. I could probably come up with a solution for that, but the construction will become a lot more complicated.
For a model to go on the aircraft carrier, however, none of that will really matter. One thing that I did get to work is the wing folding mechanism. That is important, because it will allow us to display Avengers both with their wings folded and wings spread.
Obviously there still is a lot left to do. I didn't notice that I'd forgotten to add a row of blue cheese slopes along the side of the cockpit when I took the picture. One of the things I want to change compared to what I have so far is that I'd like to add a few cowling flaps to the front and change the shape a bit.
Rob's Dolls and many other artists had a party on Tuesday to sell their proucts. To many fun things to see and buy ;-)
i made these for my friend jiha's upcoming show at saltworks in atlanta. she's going to use them and draw on top from now until her show.
School Homework:
Build a spacecraft & write a procedure about how you built it.
As usual my daughter leaves it to the last minute before announcing this weeks 'show n tell' mission.
Isn't also funny how the kids always use your rarest & most expensive bricks?

The Mobile Emergency Room is a project by Thierry Geoffroy/Colonel, a participating artist of the Maldives Pavilion working with art formats developed around the notion of emergency.
Emergency Room is a format providing space for artists to engage in urgent debates, address societal dysfunctions and express emergencies in the now, today, before it is too late. Geoffroy’s approach allows immediate artistic intervention and displaces the contemporary to the status of delayed comment on yesterday’s world.
Taking as point of departure climate change and the Maldives, Geoffroy developed a scenario of disappearance and translated actual emergencies and hospitality needs into artistic interventions. In this context he activated his penetration format in order to transform “rigid exhibition spaces” into “elastic and generous exhibition spaces”.
An intervention facilitated by curator Christine Eyene, the Mobile Emergency Room was set up at the Zimbabwe Pavilion during the opening week of the biennale with the hospitality of commissioner Doreen Sibanda and curator Raphael Chikukwa. The first pieces presented in this room consisted in Geoffroy’s tent and an installation by Polish artist Christian Costa. Since then it has been animated online and has extended from being a space for artists expressing emergencies about climate change, to encompassing various emergency topics.
From 24 to 28 August, Geoffroy was in Venice collaborating with Danish artists Nadia Plesner, Mads Vind Ludvigsen, who created new work everyday, raising various emergencies and concerns, with a daily change of exhibition (“passage”) at 3.00 pm. For his last day in Venice, Geoffroy addressed the Syrian situation.
The work produced during this intervention is displayed until 30 September. The presentation is based on Geoffroy's concept of "Delay Museum" where art created for past emergencies is exhibited, while new work enters the Mobile Emergency Room.

VENICE BIENNALE / VENEZIA BIENNIAL 2013 : BIENNALIST
www.emergencyrooms.org/biennalist.html
Biennalist is an Art Format by Thierry Geoffroy / Colonel debating with artistic tools on Biennales and other cultural managed events . Often those events promote them selves with thematics and press releases faking their aim . Biennalist take the thematics of the Biennales very seriously , and test their pertinance . Artists have questioned for decade the canvas , the pigment , the museum ... since 1989 we question the Biennales .Often Biennalist converge with Emergency Room providing a burning content that cannot wait ( today before it is too late )

Home Cash Market
4330 14th Avenue
Sacramento, CA
This corner market in one of the most disadvantaged and grocery-starved areas of Sacramento partnered with a local farm to sell fresh produce as part of a "Convenience Store Makeover" pilot project led by Alchemist Community Development Corporation and the Healthy Eating Active Living Collaborative. They host occasional events in their backyard garden and right in front of the store to promote nutritional education.
I'm fortunate enough to shop at a variety of good supermarkets, but I do sometimes drop by the Home Cash Market to make bad beverage choices when I feel the need for XTREME amounts of caffeine, taurine, L-carnitine, and whatever else is suppose to make me alert and energetic. They deserve all the support they can get!
