I uploaded this to Flickr on April 7 of this year. It's been sitting around for two months while I debated about whether to make it public.
Thank you to Nicolas Gent for his texture Wonders. I had this image of a Turkey Vulture against a plain, pale sky and had often wondered if the vulture, alone, was good enough to post. If I knew how to adjust the sky to a darker more pleasing color, that would have been enough. I still don't know how to do that. I've put the original image in the comments section.
I realize that changing the BG isn't everyone's cup-of-tea, but this is like a Halloween shot for me; it's an image that I will happily doctor up, in order to make it spooky.
BTW, the shot of the pigeon was cropped and slightly sharpened. No textures or blurring in PS, just a good camera and a cooperative bird.

LO SPORT COME CAMPO DI VITA
Che gioia colma di soddisfazione.
Sono sulla nave che mi sta portando in Sardegna,
precisamente a Cagliari.
Non sto più nella pelle.
Come dite?
Sono solo?
Ma no cari amici... siamo una bella combriccola di ragazzotti.
Andiamo per ordine però altrimenti il film non lo si capisce.
Siamo nel 1969, Armstrong aveva messo piede sulla luna da una settimana, proprio nella notte del mio 16° compleanno.
Tutta questa adrenalina mi sarà d'aiuto nella difficile impresa che vado a tentare insieme alla nazionale regionale
Toscana juniores, nell'isola che fu Pisana.
Rappresentare la mia terra, era un grandissimo onore.
Ma ditemi..
Che ci fa uno che gioca negli allievi della Turris del CEP,
nella categoria superiore?
Casi della vita e del destino.
La forte ala destra titolare, Giaconi,
era rimasta a casa per una banale appendicite fulminante.
Non c'era tempo per convocare qualcun' altro.
Il mio allenatore Loni, ex calciatore del Pisa anni 50,
tenta la carta disperata.
Si era ricordato di una vecchia regola quasi dimenticata in un cassetto.
Si poteva portare con la compagine Juniores,
anche un'atleta degli allievi.
Ci sarebbe il Paradossi, anche se giovane è fortissimo,
in campionato ha stracciato tutti.
La commissione: sarà all'altezza?
Loni:
"tranquilli li mangia tutti".
Che volete, ero il suo pupillo.
Ma di calcio se ne intendeva eccome.
Il giorno dopo ero sulla nave e non mi pareva vero.
Le nazionali regionali arrivavano alla spicciolata,
in quel fine luglio irreale.
Siamo andati sulla luna... vuol dire che può accadere di tutto.
Credetemi, fu proprio così.
La grande manifestazione era l'olimpiade delle nazionali regionali Salesiane e comprendeva vari sport,
tra cui il calcio.
Con un po' di sfortuna, e qualche decisione arbitrale non proprio azzeccata, arrivammo al terzo posto,
su un totale di 20 regioni.
Prima il Piemonte, seconda la religiosa Friuli Venezia Giulia.
Siamo alla fine dell'olimpiade,
ed il palazzetto dello sport di Cagliari brulica di giovani piuttosto chiassosi ed accaldati.
E' un'agosto infernale.
Contando solo i giocatori di calcio,
eravamo più o meno quasi 300 ragazzi,
l'impianto che ricordo bellissimo, era colmo in ogni settore.
Credo oltre le 2000 persone.
L'altoparlante sciorina i nomi degli atleti,
uno per ogni disciplina.
Io come sempre a ridere e scherzare con gli altri amici vicini,
non badavo troppo alla premiazione.
Ignaro continuavo a fare un gran baccano,
quasi fossi estraneo alla cerimonia.
Improvvisa la voce annuncia il vincitore del settore calcio.
Con la motivazione che ne attesta i meriti.
Grosso modo questa:
"Per la disciplina irreprensibile, per le doti tecniche,
per il suo grande attaccamento alla maglia ed ai valori sportivi,
per il calcio,
vince il giovanissimo Paradossi Stefano della rappresentativa Toscana".
Lo preghiamo di venire a ritirare la medaglia.
Tutti gli sguardi su me...
iooo... ci deve essere un errore.
Fu un attimo.
Uno dei migliori di tutta la mia lunga vita.
