Food describes culture and its value is undeniable. Through food, children learn about our culture, and pehaps the cultures of their ancestors from different countries. The preciousness of food is something I was taught about from a very young age, and the concept of not wasting was always very promoted in my household. Through foods, chlidren learn about different flavors, and about themselves, as they quickly start to seperate what they like from what they don't. They also learn a concept of routine, through the daily meals of breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The future and progress of Mali is found in its greatest asset—its children. Though they face many challenges, the children of Mali eagerly take advantage of any opportunity that comes their way. The Ouelessebougou Alliance has built and now manages eleven village schools—providing education for over 1,300 children in villages where no other educational opportunities exist.
