Whether you have a gas heater or an oil heater, this is an essential component in your home. You need to be sure that you are using a licensed professional to take care of basic tune ups each year so that you can ensure system health and efficiency. In addition to scheduled maintenance, you should know that there are some other heater repairs steps that you can take to help you improve the lifespan of your equipment.
Check-up For Your Gas Heater
Dust and Clean: Just as any other kind of equipment, you have to keep all of the components and the area around the unit free from dirt, debris and dust. These are contaminants that can get inside and do quite a bit of damage.
Inspect The Filters: The air filter for your heater should be cleaned or replaced on a regular basis to keep your home free from pollutants. A gas furnace will always be cleaner than an oil furnace; however, you still need to have the heated air treated before it enters into your home. Whenever a filter is dirty, you can swap them out right away to improve the air quality in your home as well as the efficiency of your system.
Oil Heater Repairs
Clean or Replace Filters: An oil furnace is going to have oil and air filters that need cleaning and/or replacing to make sure that they run efficiently. Each of the filters will have to be changed out periodically so that you can get the most out of your heater. If there is more soot around your vents than normal, the filters could be the issue.
Dust and Clean: An oil furnace is known for putting out soot. However, a healthy oil heater that is maintained properly will be able to operate without making the space around it dirty. In order to encourage proper operation, you need to keep the area that is around the heater nice and clean. This can also allow easier access by a professional technician that may have to get in to diagnose an issue or to do repairs.
Trouble Signs: Some of the things that you need to look for include black smoke that comes from your chimney, rattling noises and anything abnormal. If you notice any of these things, it is best that you contact a licensed professional.
Professional Services and Heater Repairs: There are a number of components of your oil heater that will be best taken care of by a professional technician. Some portions, like the blower motor, fan belt, burner nozzle and other areas that need to be lubricated will need to be looked at by a professional service.
