Title: Neon Catechism
Artist Statement:
A room arranged for devotion becomes a study in compliance. The only color permitted is the red of a hanging cross—part sacrament, part warning light—casting shallow halos across sealed figures. Each body is shrink-wrapped into gloss, individuality reduced to a uniform reflectivity that mirrors the symbol back at itself. The wooden chairs remain stubbornly human—nicked, matte, handmade—so the contrast reads as policy: warmth assigned to furniture, anonymity to people.
The composition is patient and architectural. Rows taper toward a corner, the cross hung off-center like a metronome for attention. Highlights travel as small citations across plastic faces; the floor holds a cool, industrial hush. Nothing here shouts. Instead, the image asks what ritual looks like when legibility is optimized and breath is negotiated—preservation and suffocation made indistinguishable by sheen. In graphite blacks and disciplined red, the scene withholds simple answers: attendance is evident, belief is unreadable, and visibility is something granted, not owned.
