Series of three collaborative paintings with LA artist Cache. We did these in one sitting on a crazy hot day in my studio. Will also be shown as part of “The Revolutionaries" at 1AM in San Francisco.
Cache Rd (former US 62) @ 38th St.
Cache Road Square was a huge retail development in Lawton at its inception--this part of town was being developed as the westernmost edge of town. To find the edge now, you have to continue west about 3 more miles. The structure was as cutting edge as its location, with giant domes over a couple of the anchor spaces, and curvy awnings over the sidewalks (see next photo). In the last ten years the interiors of the dome have had drop ceilings installed (and I hear there was issues with roof leaks) and those drab faux walls were erected over the awnings... I guess to have somewhere to stick the signage? Well there goes all the flavor.
Depot USA is a fairly recent occupant of this space--the second big-box space from the 38th St side after Big Lots (which was a former supermarket I believe)--before that, Sadler's Book and Office Supply was located here, and I imagine it did a huge business... until Staples and Office Depot arrived in town.
Cache Creek in northern California. There's a cluster of cliff swallow nests under the ledge on the right (view large). Original photo shot in Kodachrome, converted to digital with a CoolScan V.
