Coffin of Djedptahjwefanch, 2nd or 3rd Prophet of Amun, 21a-22 Dynasties, Thebes, found in the Royal Cache TT320 in 1881, Cairo National Museum CG61034
Fine detail of the side of the shrine on the solar barque on the left side of the coffin with the original colours restored. The yellow is varnish discolouration and was not a part of the painting. Important here is to note the two shades of the red ink used by the outline draughtsman where lines intersect. The broad vertical lines were the first applied. The porus white gesso background upon which the drawing was executed absorbed a certain amount of the organic colour and lightened it. The thinner interior lines show the same reaction, except for where they cross the previously applied broad lines. Notice that the red is darker where the two sets of lines cross. The relative colour saturation of the single coated and double coated areas establish the porosity of the gesso surface.
The blue shown here is an acceptably faithful digital reconstruction of the average original hue and saturation.
The pigment used was powdered "Egyptian blue" frite (pâte de verre) such as used for the blue shabtis of the period.
This type of scientific technical reconstruction was impossible before we had reached the present (2007-8) level of digital photography and image processing. Here you see something which no one had ever seen before this publcation. It is an example of the value of Flickr for making the results of image research available to everyone in "real time". The accompanying images show how we got to this result.
Smallest cache found to date. It's along a red bridge along Steven's Creek Blvd by the Blue Pheasant restaurant. The tiny thing inside is actually rolled up paper for the log.

Leptophyes punctatissima ♀ : 10-15 mm, oviscapte court et courbé, élytres très petits en forme d'écaille verte (elle ne peut pas voler), corps vert à petits points et des antennes longues .
As of 3/15/09, there are 75 caches in the Watchung Reservation. I have found 63, and there are 12 additional yet to be found by me. Wow!
