From my Tiny Worlds Collection, this photomicrograph is composed of naturally occurring crystals in the urine of a Black Rhinoceros. The urine was collected for routine health monitoring. Afterwards, the specimen is retained for crystal formation and photography. The crystal is likely a calcium salt. The colorless crystals get their color when polarized light is used above and below the specimen. Horses have similar crystals.
I didn't see the heart when I originally shot this pic. Discovered it later and thought it pretty cool. When I first saw the thumbnail of this photo I almost didn't open it up. The other thumbnails looked better. Boy, I'm glad I did. I found some hidden love. Turns out the other pics didn't have it.
So... since we're all about sharing here at flickr, here's some love to anybody and everybody out there (no exceptions) who needs a little bit right now.

Love is all you need.

Well, Nancy's bracelet is one row, here I double it.

This is a photo of a bismuth crystal, at 100x magnification. Taken with my Canon SX110 IS, through a simple microscope with lighting from above. The crystal is embeded in a matrix of bismuth. Created myself, Paul, from www.paulslab.com

Bottle was placed on a piece of toughened glass painted black on the underside to remove double reflections. Behind the scene was a large sheet of black cardboard. Image was processed using DarkTable on Linux where the main alteration was to move the black point to remove some light spill on the background.
It was a frosty morning in Vancouver on New Year's Eve day.
The ice crystals formed on the deck plexiglass panels.

Oh, the crystal chandeliers
Light up the paintings on your wall
The marble statuettes are standing stately in the hall
But will the timely crowd that has you laughing loud
Help you dry your tears
When the new wears off of your crystal chandeliers?
(Charley Pride)
Not only is the chandelier cylindrical in its arrangement, each of the hanging ‘crystals’ are individual cylinders.

Crystal Cave is the most famous of Bermuda's many subterranean caverns. It is located in Hamilton Parish, close to Castle Harbour. The cave is approximately 500 m long, and 62 m deep. The cave formed at lower sea level and, as the sea level rose, many speleothems, which formed in air, now are under water level.
A tourist attraction since 1907, it was discovered in 1905 by Carl Gibbons and Edgar Hollis, two 12 year-old boys searching for a lost cricket ball, which has never been found! Soon after, the Wilkinson family (the owners of the property since 1884) learned of the discovery, Mr. Percy Wilkinson lowered his 14 year-old son Bernard into it with a bicycle lamp on 140 feet of strong rope tied to a tree to explore the cave.
The area surrounding Harrington Sound is of limestone formation and noted for many subterranean waterways, through which the waters of the sound empty into the Atlantic. Crystal Cave is one of these, and - as its name suggests - is one of the most spectacularly beautiful, with many stalactites, stalagmites, and deep crystal-clear pools.

ELIAS: Choice is what you may term to be a type of prism for direction.
It is the instrument for directing your attention, which facilitates your exploration, and this is the action of consciousness in its entirety, in all of its expressions and manifestations — exploration.

for Bridgy, an excerpt of a published poem seen in her oranged crystal light...
"If I stay closest to the edge to watch life unfold
Will I marvel at the limitless horizon beyond
The confines of the center I am leaving behind?
Will I spread clipped wings
And find the instinct to fly
Back to the berthing place
Of nascent and now your oranged light,
Conscious only of being alive...?

Oh, crystal ball, crystal ball,
Save us all, tell me life is beautiful,
Mirror, mirror on the wall.
Oh, crystal ball, hear my song,
I'm fading out, everything I know is wrong,
So put me where I belong.

Rutile Crystals - A spectucular small cabinet specimen of the acicular needle crystals called rutile, mined in Brazil at the Novo Horizante mine at Bahia. Hematite is the black matrix. Photographed through glass, seen in the Crystal Springs Mining Company gallery, Hotel Convention Center, Tucson, Arizona. Tucson Rock and Gem Show 2013. I got to meet the owner Thomas Nagin and he was a delight to speak with, as are all his show staff. For a link to their website, check here: crystalspringsmining.com/
Some sense of the grandeur of the (Low Level) station here. A Southern Class 377 waits at Crystal Palace to re-commence its leisurely journey to Victoria.
Crystal 61 was a concept for a 1,000 foot observation tower, with a theatre and exhibition spaces, to be built for CIAM, an architecture conference held in London in 1961. This ad by the builders, Pilkington Bros, appeared in The Architectural Review, Jan 1962. I think this was drawn by Gordon Cullen who wrote and illustrated the magazine’s “Townscape” section in the 1950s.
Just one of many fine things in these mags I snagged!
