Crystal Pool was a public swimming pool in Fayette City that operated from 1953 to 2016. The pool has since been filled in, but the pool house, pavilion, and kitchen remain. My mom would bring my sisters and I here to swim during summers throughout the 90s.
The "crystal ball" is a spherical glass container filled with alcohol. The aim of the sphere is to focus sunlight on a metal plate, and thus burn the metal. The place of the focus is depending on the time of day and time of year. After one year the plate is exchanged, and will then witness about how sunny that year was, and at which time of the year the weather was the best.
The "Crystal ball" is situated on the south east side of "Realfagbygget" building at the university NTNU in Trondheim, Norway.
A slice of agate. It's used as a coaster most of the time, but it's beautiful structure is very eye catching.
Look over yonder / what do you see
The sun is a-risin' / most definitely
A new day is comin' / people are changin'
Ain't it beautiful / crystal blue persuasion...
This was part of a shop at the local Ren. Faire here. They sell crystal hanging ornaments and jewelry. It's all very pretty!
(I bought a snowflake crystal necklace from them, but I don't have a photo of it yet).
This is a 2 shot composite from my trip up to Crystal Lake in the Uinta Mountains of Utah last fall. I setup/aligned my tripod and iOptron Skytracker with my Nikon D600 and Rokinon 24mm lens, took my sky shot first with the Skytracker turned on, camera set to ISO 800, f1.4, and took a 50 second exposure. Next I turned the Skytracker off and took my foreground shot, ISO 400, f1.4, 3 minute exposure, being careful not to move the camera.
In post processing I layered the two shots, I selected just the trees/mountain/earth (both the real and reflection) and mask/layered that over the shot of the sky covering the earth portion in the sky shot. The stars in the shot of the foreground with the Skytracker off had long trails (including in the reflection), while the earth in the shot of the stars with the Skytracker on was blurry (from the camera rotating along the polar axis). This is the combination, a very tricky shot to edit.
For some reason I couldn't get the color balance of the reflected sky to match exactly that of the real sky, it came out a little more green while the actual sky came out more orange and red (especially at the horizon because of intense wildfire smoke and light pollution from Salt Lake City).

This bad boy was rising early in the evening, when Sam came and told to bring out the camera. I slapped the teleconverter on and the rest is digital history.

The color amethyst is a moderate, transparent violet.
The name is derived from the stoneamethyst, a form of quartz.

The AK cars with 42103,GM22 on an eastbound trip from Adelaide to Sydney cross the rail bridge at Crystal Brook on 27-4-21. Shortly after here the train will stop behind the signal at the start of the double track and push back towards Rocky River , where it will resume its journey east taking the east leg of Crystal Brook triangle.
On 24th October 1975 this bridge was the scene of a derailment where loco 874 was badly damaged after the bridge collapsed due to flood waters, falling off the bridge with numerous freight wagons.
