Crystal Head shot glasses, on fire.

Sorry for the delay in posting. I've been crazy busy with work which is preventing me from putting in much processing time. Hopefully this push will relax in the not too distant future and I'll be back to a more normal schedule.

Brad McGinley and I spent a long day/night of travel to get to/from the Crystal Mill which has been on my bucket list since I first saw a photograph of it many years ago. We picked the night of the full moon because I thought the light might provide some interesting light and shadow. In many ways I was right, but capturing the shot I envisioned proved a formidable competitor.

This shot is made up of about 30 - 13 second shots. In each one I light painted a different portion of the scene. The moon is to my right lighting up the rocks on the left and a portion of the tree right of the cabin. The gaps you see in the star trails are due to delays in my shooting caused by our dogs. I'm not sure why I didn't automate this with my intervelometer, but at the time it didn't seem an issue.

I'm not completely happy with this shot, but I do like it enough to post it. I guess to me, the pieces and parts that make up the scene aren't playing well together. If you have any thoughts or recommendations to share I would love to hear them. As always, if you like it that would be a great comment too.

CRYSTAL BOURBON GLASS

Yanchep National Park is located around 50km north of Perth and is accessed from Wanneroo Road. The Park is open between 9am and 5pm (entry fees apply), and it is a great place to spend the day and explore the various walking trails, spot some native animals and learn about the culture and history or the Nyoongar people of WA’s South-West. The park is also home to many limestone caves.

Please keep the comments polite and respectful.

There was this one patch of trees and shrubs that were coated with these ice crystals. I magnified this branch from a previous photo. It looks like leaves made from ice crystals. There is a second shot of a different branch in my photostream. Take a look.

Starting the autumn season in Blueberry - Socialite

This was taken at Smith Point Beach Park on Long Island back in the early 1990's sometime. Crystal was the niece of Lisa King, a woman my father and his girlfriend had cared for when she was little. Her baby, Stevie, was on the blanket behind Crystal. They were adorable children as their parents had been when I first met them!

This was taken with a very inexpensive, 35mm camera. I've done my best to pull up the detail and try to do noise reduction and color correction without doing too much distortion to the original image. I cropped out some of the distractions, like Crystal's mother's leg, as you can see in the original below.

First attempt to grow crystals. Seasalt and distilled water.

1.Stir salt into boiling hot water until no more salt will dissolve (supersaturated salt solution)

2. Leave the solution undisturbed and let the water evaporate
