White-plumed Honeyeater (landscape version)
Scientific Name: Lichenostomus penicillatus
Description: The White-plumed Honeyeater is a medium-sized honeyeater with a slightly down-curved bill. It is yellowish-olive to grey above, pale brown-grey below, with a yellowish head and a distinctive white neck-plume, giving the bird its name. The males are slightly larger but the sexes are otherwise similar. Young are duller, with much less distinct plumes and a paler bill. Usually gregarious and seen constantly moving from tree to tree with rapid darting movements.
Similar species: The only honeyeater with a white neck-plume, the White-plumed Honeyeater may only be confused at a distance with other similarly sized plumedLichenostomus honeyeaters such as the Yellow-plumed, Yellow-tinted, Fuscousand Grey-fronted Honeyeaters.
Distribution: Endemic to mainland Australia, the White-plumed Honeyeater is found found everywhere except in the tropical north, Cape York Peninsula and the most arid areas. Originally a 'straggler' to Sydney until the 1940s, it is now very common and well-established, and has also expanded its range into the upper Hunter Valley all the way to Newcastle, New South Wales. It may also be extending its range into south-western Western Australia, but this is yet to be confirmed.
Habitat: The White-plumed Honeyeater is found in open forests and woodlands, often near water and wetlands. It is scarce or absent in arid regions unless water artificially supplied (e.g. water troughs for stock). Its overall distribution is linked to River Red Gums. It is also found in remnant bushland in urban areas, as well as parks and gardens.
Seasonal movements: Seasonal migration from ranges to lower areas in winter.
Feeding: The White-plumed Honeyeater feeds very actively from leaves and flowers in the crowns of trees and in shrubs between 5 m and 13 m from the ground. Its main foods are nectar, insects (and their products such as lerps and honeydew), manna and fruit, with some seeds. Very strongly associated with River Red Gums. They sometimes also feed in the air or forage upon the ground.
Breeding: During the breeding season, male White-plumed Honeyeaters make several 'Song Flights' throughout the day above the treetops (10 m - 20 m above ground) while singing a special song, before diving steeply into nearby tree. Females build a small cup-shaped nest in the crown of a tree from 1 m to 20 m off the ground. It is woven from grass and spider web and lined with wool, hair or feathers. Females incubate the eggs but both parents feed the young, sometimes with the assistance of helpers. Two to three clutches are laid each year.
Calls: The White-plumed Honeyeater is one of the first birds to call in the morning and the last to call in the evening, with several songs e.g. 'chick-ick-o-wee' or 'chirrapo-we-weet, other calls and musical whistles. Also has a piping alarm call. The White-plumed Honeyeater is one of the first birds to call in the morning and the last to call in the evening.

This is how I felt last year when I was having trouble getting over a bunch of things that changed in my life. I guess this is in celebration of "the ghost" no longer haunting me. I am proud of myself for coming out as a better and stronger person.
Thank you dad for clicking the button and initially being my model so I could set up this shot before stepping in.
Please excuse my awkward expressions in some of the pictures below. It was extremely cold and hard to think about modelling properly.
This was inspired by my favourite Metric song, Satellite Mind.
journals.openedition.org/imagesrevues/2501

Well, today is my birthday. I don't celebrate birthdays, but Gemma made me this wonderful video of clips from our friendship since we first met in October 2016.
It had me in tears watching through this. So many wonderful, precious memories and great times. I don't know where I would be without Gemma. What a wonderful friend!
Had this image as private to use in comments but it kept disappearing in the comments so i made it public, hoping that stops.
This is just the wider angle view of taken less than a minute from a previous post but the mist was changing so fast it looked a bit different.
No comments necessary on this one, please use previous post

Brolga
Scientific Name: Grus rubicund
Description: The Brolga is a large grey crane, with a featherless red head and grey crown. The legs are grey and there is a black dewlap under the chin. Females are shorter than males. The energetic dance performed by the Brolga is a spectacular sight. Displays may be given at any time of the year and by birds of any age.
Similar species: The Sarus Crane, G. antigone, another species of crane found in Australia, can be identified by its dull pink legs and the red of its head extending down the neck.
Distribution: The Brolga is found across tropical northern Australia, southwards through north-east and east central areas, as well as central New South Wales to western Victoria.
Habitat: The Brolga inhabits large open wetlands, grassy plains, coastal mudflats and irrigated croplands and, less frequently, mangrove-studded creeks and estuaries. It is less common in arid and semi-arid regions, but will occur close to water.
Seasonal movements: Outside the breeding season, Brolgas form large family groups and flocks of up to a hundred birds. These groups may be partially nomadic or may stay in the same area. Some birds also migrate northwards.
Feeding: Brolgas are omnivorous (feeding on both vegetable and animal matter), but primarily feed upon tubers and some crops. Some insects, molluscs, amphibians and even mice are also taken.
Breeding: Brolgas probably mate for life, and pair bonds are strengthened during elaborate courtship displays, which involve much dancing, leaping, wing-flapping and loud trumpeting. An isolated territory is established, and is vigorously defended by both partners. The white (blotched with brown and purple) eggs are laid in a single clutch. The nest is a large mound of vegetation on a small island in a shallow waterway or swamp. Both adults incubate the eggs and care for the young birds. The Brolga is one of Australia's two crane species, and is known for its spectacular dance displays by both sexes during breeding season.
Calls: The Brolga's call is a loud trumpeting 'garooo' or 'kaweee-kreee-kurr-kurr-kurr-kurr-kurr-kurr', which is given in flight, at rest or during courtship.
Minimum Size: 100cm
Maximum Size: 125cm
Average size: 112cm
Breeding season: September to December in the south; February to May in the north
Clutch Size: 2 eggs
Incubation: 32 days

Pretty cool thing to do if you are not afraid of heights. Then, it's a very scary experience.. I'm told ;D.. You are suspended high above the valley and walking on transparent walkway seeing all that's below. And it vibrates, too ;D Very cool!
A note of appreciation to visitors
Thank you very much for visiting and for your supportive comments and favorites, Also, a big thanks to those following my Photostream. I understand that to do so means you've taken time out from your busy day, so please know that I am very grateful. I always try my best to return your generosity.
BUT PLEASE, no badges in comments. I call it dumping on the lawn.

p.s. Unless otherwise noted in my image Tags, all the images I post here are taken with an iPhone and processed entirely on an iPad using a wide variety of apps. Certainly not as capable as using a "real" camera and Photoshop, but I'm enjoying the liberation of simply seeing, capturing, fiddling, and posting a wider variety of images than was otherwise possible for me in the past.
