NATCA’s Director of Safety & Technology Tom Adcock kicked off this morning’s Tech Talks at #NATCACFS 2022. Tech talks are a chance for CFS attendees to hear detailed updates on commercial space, new technologies being implemented in the National Airspace System, and more from the NATCA and FAA reps closest to these lines of business.

On the morning of Dec. 8, 2021, Merrill Field (MRI) was finishing up snow removal operations from a winter storm the day before. At Anchorage International, TransNorthern 123, shortly after takeoff, experienced a loss of engine power and requested to return for landing. Brent Eber and Nathan Midthun, who was working as Controller in Charge, jumped into action as they heard TransNorthern 123 say, “Mayday, we are putting it down at Merrill! Runway 7 at Merrill, Runway 7 at Merrill!”
