On the chilly desert evening of February 15, 2022, NATCA members Matt Cox, Eric Joe and the training team of Dan Hauptman and Colby Alford were having a routine shift at Las Vegas TRACON (L30), when N77FH, a Beech Bonanza (BE35), checked in VFR, and stated that he needed assistance. Not being IFR certified, N77FH soon encountered IFR conditions, lost control of the aircraft and became inverted, regained control, lost engine power, restarted the engine, regained control, and finally navigated on course to land safely — all thanks to the help of the L30 controllers.

The remains of a building fire at Mt Burr. This was an old building in disrepair that needed to be brought down for safety so the Local CFS used it as a training session.
On the morning of Dec. 8, 2021, Merrill Field (MRI) was finishing up snow removal operations from a winter storm the day before. At Anchorage International, TransNorthern 123, shortly after takeoff, experienced a loss of engine power and requested to return for landing. Brent Eber and Nathan Midthun, who was working as Controller in Charge, jumped into action as they heard TransNorthern 123 say, “Mayday, we are putting it down at Merrill! Runway 7 at Merrill, Runway 7 at Merrill!”
