Here's a blooper shot from day 5 of my southwest tour, it is the only time that Wayne turned a light on during one of my exposures, He had picked up my Brinkman 2 million candlepower torch lamp to test it's ability to reflect light. We were getting the lighting setup and he turned it on and shined it around. and said, I really like the color of this lamp and noticed I was exposing. Ooops!! No problems, we went on shooting the rest of the night.

Somehow when we arrived back at the cars later that morning it seemed like it was 4am when really it was 5:00 Then again, this was day 5 of the trip and I was already walking around like a zombie. :/ Who knows where that time went, but it was time well spent I say!!!

Funny thing is, one of the first comments I made to Wayne here on Flickr was about alien abductions. :)

Thank you for taking the time to visit and as always, your views, comments, faves, and support are greatly appreciated!! :) Have a Happy New Year one and all. :)

Enjoy an image of Robson Square in the city centre of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. During the holiday season, an ice skating rink (illuminated in blue lighting in the image) is opened to the public -- a treat for skating enthusiasts. Whenever I visited during this time of year, this scene always emoted a sense of merriment in the city.

The border between the States and Canada has been closed for approximately a year on account of the coronavirus pandemic. Vancouver has often been a weekend escape of sorts for me since it's only 2.5 hours' drive by car from Seattle (or 4 hours by train -- which is a terrific experience as well). I have not been to Vancouver in almost two years as a result, which is rather unfortunate.

I cannot complain too much as I know individuals who have suffered significantly due to the border closures -- separated family members as well as partners and significant others. With Valentine's Day coinciding with this weekend, I would be crushed if I was unable to see my girlfriend, in person, in almost a year, because she lived in Vancouver and I lived in Seattle. There are a number of couples who have been physically separated. I'm sure there are similar scenarios all over the world.

I sincerely hope and anticipate that we (in the States) get our act together with the vaccine distributions in 2021.

This was actually a "blooper" from my last shoot but I feel like my facial expression really hits my current mood on target today lol!

Bloopers and Re-edits

In concluding this current series of night photographs I thought I'd describe some of the problems involved in choosing the right edit for a night shot - colour and black and white. My first version of this shot in December 2019 can be seen for comparison here: www.flickr.com/photos/luminosity7/49215280311/in/album-72...

This is the entrance gate to Luna Park in the Melbourne bayside suburb of St Kilda. It was built in 1912 and has Australia's oldest wooden roller coaster, The Scenic Railway (the second oldest in the world), which runs around its boundary.

Well, strictly speaking this is another shot of the same scene. The first blooper I made in my initial selection was to take no account of the compositional advantages of people in the photograph. Four years ago I simply didn't understand how important people can be as elements in a frame. If you want an artistic model for this, look at some of the Australian artist Jeffrey Smart's paintings, especially "Cahill Expressway" (1962). www.ngv.vic.gov.au/explore/collection/work/3000/

That single figure makes the painting.

So you'll see in 2019 I overlooked two key figures that add interest to this scene. The first on our far left is the man standing with cap in profile against that wall that is bathed in yellow light (What is he doing? Waiting for someone?). The second figure on our far right is running from the bus towards the entrance of Luna Park. But in 2019 I chose the RAW file which neglected the foreground activities and design on the concrete. Both critical to the balance of the composition.

The second (and frankly, most embarrassing) blooper has to do with balancing the colours. In the 2019 version they are a total mess. Where did all that blue in the face come from? I am much more concerned now for accuracy of colour rendition whilst still happy to play them up for effect (we don't want a bland view that merely reproduces what our eyes can see). But unless the colours are balanced (and getting a white balance first is critical for this) and the exposure levels are congruent with the actual scene, all sorts of problems emerge.

There are more than enough problems in night colour photography as it is. And one of the reasons why I think most night shots are easier to process in black and white, is that you get fewer artefacts - or unwanted results - and when you do you can hide them to a large extent. Part of the reason I chose to produce such a dark version in 2019 was an attempt to hide some of these artefacts. In fact all I needed to do was get the colour balance right in the first place. This re-edit is a much truer version of the original scene and most importantly, the atmosphere.

Wasted 12 minute exposure of the Orion and Horsehead Nebulae with the Bahtinov focus mask in place. Confirms I had the focus nailed! Except the yellow stars, interestingly...

You can try for the pic but siblings just cannot behave! Nothing like a good nose pinching! 😂

this shot done without any kind of filters. i overlooked the fact that i was shooting at "tungsten" white balance(i was shooting portraits the night before hehehe) and i was shooting "jpeg" i can't seem to change the white balance now hehehe.

what a blooper!

Raccoon ~ Procyon lotor

Every now and again Mother Nature lets you take a peek at the blooper roll. This raccoon was trying to get inside a cavity in the tree. In it's enthusiasm it momentarily got stuck and with legs flailing finally managed to get inside. Shortly after it poked its head back out and left. The only thing missing from the the scene was the Benny Hill Theme.

Thanks for visiting!

This blooper of Otis begs a caption, but I'm not coming up with one.

I've almost finished working on my backlog of photos and videos from September last year.

That was the most productive photography/vlog trip I've ever had.

I managed to bag some certified 'bangers' for my next book as well as film to hilarious content for my channel.

Today's video features some side-splitting bloopers as well as the moment I captured this little pano.

Road going into the Mulberry Canyon. This was one of my mother's favorite places in the world. When she was in a nursing home a fellow she had gone to school with was there too. He told me one day that when my mother died she didn't want to go to heaven. She wanted to go to the Mulberry Canyon. I don't think that was quite true but tells you how much she loved it.

I have been going through my firework shots and even though it is a dud I quite like the non intentional - intentional camera movement in this one!

ok so sometimes weird things happen on the dance floor.. let's begin with Dizzy's noob dance....

We look forward to doing these sparkler New Year photos every year. Everyone bickers a little at first. But they now all snicker and have learned to punk me and draw naughty things. It's funny because we never know what's going to appear. Numbers are always backwards too. But this was way more hysterical this time when Ronnie and all his conviction was proud and determined he was perfect. Yes honey it was perfect!

If someone ever tells you its easy to sit in a chair side ways, they're probably lying.

i LOVE these guys!!!! Probably my favorite childhood toys! They just don't make 'em like this anymore!!! Greenie Meanie on the left in the foreground was my absolute fave (again, note the pink, a number one color for young April). Greenie Meanie was accompanied by Purple Gurple, Bluey Blooper and Yello Fello. They still glow in the dark! This is a mint set...all intact with their antennae in place - not easy to find in this condition. I love them and wouldn't part with them for the world. Oh, yeah, the spaceships have wheels, so when you roll them across a hard surface the little kiddle wiggles from side to side.

It's Sunday, my daughter is at work and my husband is out racing his motorcycle. Perfect time to make a story about Phillip's cousin coming to visit, but then I am reminded that I forgot to call the cat sitter. I finally got a few shots but not before the three cats attempted attacks on Marble, Phillip and Carl. When they were done with their attacks, they decided to run in and out of the small slit of the open door. Poor Marble now needs surgery because she either has "a screw loose" or a loose eye ball! Thanks kids!

We are fooling around with Katie’s filters. She is the little girl in the blooper photo with the dog on the surfboard entitled, “I’m not a person?”

One of the outtakes. Cali is thrilled to have the Santa hat on.

Best viewed large for the full view of her pitiful face and boo boo lip.

All you need is a little flextube to push on the back on the Non-Overmolded Blooper and you've got a useable gun.

Liked the shot overall but that damned feather killed it.. haha oh well.. thanks for viewing!

Funny pose with the pointy head and strange looking eyes. Had to keep at least one of the blooper shots.
