"Birdbrain" tour. Melkweg Amsterdam, 1990.

Whoever coined the term " Birdbrain" as a disparagement must not have been a terribly perceptive fellow .... A lot of birds have very large brains relative to their body size and are capable of feats we are barely able to duplicate ( precisely navigating global migrations, etc.) This Robin looks pretty brainy ...

Here, she's preparing to attack me for approaching her nest , on my front porch ..... I imagine I'll be posting a portrait of her big-mouthed young ones pretty soon, but ... If I do that, I think I'll wear some head protection ...

Certainly not the smartest birds, repeatedly tried building a nest inside my barbecue grill.

Later, when we were at Billie Creek Historic Village in Rockville Indiana, I saw the same two characters. They were arguing about which house to buy.

Lab staff and children march as "The Bird Brains." By Marc Dantzker; Birdscope Summer 2003, p5

I went for a walk on the

This Male Cardinal at my parents homel appears to be spying through the living room window, but he is really just trying to scare away his reflection in the window which he thinks is a rivel trying to move in on his territory. This is the second year this guy has been at trying to chase himself away. He will fly against the window and beat himself half crazy. In an attempt to get him to stop my Mom posted an 8 X 10 of her cat in the window, which had no effect. Appearently he cant distinguish his own reflection from that of another Cardinal, but he can tell an 8 X 10 print of a cat from the real thing, LOL. This guy lends true meaning to the term, "Bird Brain", LOL
