Things are still looking good 1km into the hike down to Mystic Beach...

Taken from a moving car with a crappy camera, and not exactly abstract, but I found it interesting that the saplings were the only thing in focus and they look more like headstones in a cemetary than a regenerating forest. The loggers didn't even try to hide this clearcut by leaving a buffer beside the road.

Happy to have finally reached the beach!

The train blows the whistle and rings the bell for the entire 5 hour trip (that is only meant to take 4.5 hours), but the trestle crossings are definitely worth it.

So, the new cheapie camera does not have any manual control over exposure. A little creativity with reflective surfaces could compensate for the macro withdrawal I'll be going through for the next little while. The negative version is actually pretty cool too...

I really miss my camera. I wanted to get a couple shots of Chinatown in case I end up moving away in May, but this is just ridiculous. Some other people have taken much prettier photos.

Taken from the train between Courtenay and Nanaimo, BC.

Yes - it's an evil invasive species, but the coconutty smell of the gorse along the water reminded me of the UK.
