In these days when statues are toppling on a daily basis, Darlington should say a word in praise of Mr Pease who stands on a plinth in High Row.
In 2008, this statue, erected in 1875, was one of 21 across the country to have their listing schedules enhanced because of their importance to the anti-slavery movement.
Four friezes on Joseph Pease’s plinth tell his life story. On one of those friezes, a slave writes the word “freedom” above the heads of a rejoicing crowd.
The Peases were Quakers, who believed that all people were equal before God. Joseph’s uncle, also called Joseph, lived at Feethams where the Town Hall is today, and from the earliest years of the 19th Century, he led a national campaign against slavery in India.
He fired his daughter, Elizabeth, with enthusiasm for the cause of fairness, and she founded the Darlington Ladies Anti-Slavery Society in the mid-1830s – it was one of the first women’s political movements in the country.
In 1840, Elizabeth was one of six women to attend the World Anti-Slavery Convention in London where, to her horror, she discovered that because she was female she was not only forbidden from speaking but she had to sit behind a bar and a curtain. This unfairness fired her further and she became a feminist, arguing that women should be equal also.
In 1853, though, she married a Glasgow university professor of astronomy who was not a Quaker. “Marrying out” was still frowned upon and so broke ties with Darlington and lived the rest of her life in Edinburgh, campaigning for women to get the vote.
In 1832, Elizabeth persuaded her cousin Joseph to break with Quaker tradition and stand for Parliament so he could further the cause of anti-slavery. He won the South Durham seat, and became the first nonconformist MP in the Commons for 200 years.
Joseph joined fellow MP William Wilberforce in campaigning to free slaves.
In his longest speech, Joseph appealed to other MPs "on behalf of their poor brethren of colour whose sufferings under the present system were of a nature to stimulate every feeling bosom to concede to them a paramount consideration”.
The speech covers 40 pages in Hansard, the Parliamentary record, and as Joseph delivered it, he became increasingly wrapped up in the emotion of it, much to the delight of the Whig MPs opposite him.
Hansard records: "He felt the inadequacy of his powers in pleading such a cause. (Here, the hon gentleman was so affected he was obliged to pause for a moment. Much cheering.)
"The house will pardon me (concluded Mr Pease) for having so long trespassed upon their attention. I am unable to go on. But when the great and solemn day shall come, when I shall myself stand in need of mercy, I hope it will be meted to me in the same measure as I am disposed to mete it to others."
Despite the ridicule, Joseph's speech was widely regarded by anti-slavery campaigners as for providing moral justification for the cause, and the Abolition of Slavery Act received Royal Assent on August 28, 1833.
Unfortunately, Wilberforce never lived to see it – he died a month earlier, just as the Stockton & Darlington Railway was taking delivery of its engine No 23.

It was designed by Timothy Hackworth, but had been built by Robert Stephenson & Co in Newcastle. It was a major step forward for the railway: Locomotion No 1 of 1825 had been able to pull 250 tons of coal per mile per hour but locomotive No 23 was able to pull 1,250 tons of coal per mile per hour, and it was the first engine in the dark green paint that the S&DR then adopted for all of its locos.
No 23 was named Wilberforce in honour of the anti-slavery campaigner.

Not long ago, the Willow Emerald Damselfly had only been reliably recorded in the UK on 2 occasions, in 1979 and 1992. A single individual was then recorded in south-east Suffolk during 2007, followed in 2009 by a sudden boom of 400 records of the species from this same general area. Since this time, the Willow Emerald has spread rapidly across the south-east of England, gaining footholds in new counties on a yearly basis. The natural colonisation and spread of this damselfly in the UK is incredible.
Willow Emerald Damselfly females lay eggs into the bark of trees; these eggs overwinter and then with the coming of spring they hatch and the larva falls into the water below.
This was my first sighting of a Willow Emerald Damselfly, seen clinging for life on a Sallow twig in 40mph gusts of wind in Suffolk. My thanks to Sue Gough, a talented guide for Naturetrek, who told me where to look.

Jeder kann es zu etwas bringen, aber eben nicht alle. Fakt ist: Nur die wenigsten schaffen es tatsächlich... Die Herkunft und der familiäre Hintergrund entscheidet über den Werdegang. Da gibt es keine Gerechtigkeit. Behaupte ruhig etwas anderes. Ich glaube in diesem Fall an die Erkenntnisse meines Experimentes... Die wachsende Angst vor der erstarkenden Alternativen. Der lodernde Zorn der Wutbürger und Denkzettelverteiler. Und von oben wird noch Öl in das heißer werdende Feuer in diesem gesellschaftlichen Hochofen gegossen. Fakten werden mit Blick auf die Wahlumfragen bei Seite gewischt. Willkommen im neuen Amerika. Von dem jene Träumen, die behaupten, der Markt würde schon alles regeln. Und an das diejenigen denken, die wieder einen starken Führer wollen. Wobei Deutschlands dunkelste Wegstrecke hinter eben einem solchen Führer zurück gelegt wurde... Warum solche Gedanken an einem solchen Ort? Vor der Realität hängt ein Vorhang. Hier sollte es nicht so aussehen... Ziviler Ungehorsam gleicht Ungleichgewichte in den Möglichkeiten politischer Einflussnahmen aus. Ja, dem stimme ich zu. Die gelben Briefe, die mir meine Frau morgens zusammen mit der Tageszeitung aus dem Briefkasten holt und mit einem Lächeln auf den Tisch legt, das ich immer noch so sehr liebe. Vor genau zehn Jahren die Verhandlungen über die Werkschließung, die ich als Betriebsratsvorsitzender führen musste. Was ich daraus gelernt habe... Der Theorie ist die Praxis vollkommen egal. Gerade wenn es um wirtschaftliche Interessen geht. Willst Du Profite, musst Du alle und jeden gegeneinander ausspielen und wann immer es geht ablenken. Mit Ängsten, mit Unwahrheiten, mit vorgeschobenen Feindbildern. BILD gehört zu KKR. Mir erklärt das die aktuellen Schlagzeilen... Unser System ist am Arsch. Das sage ich, während ich in der politischen Mitte stehe. Wir gehen vor die Hunde und haben es eben nicht anders verdient. Die Scheiße, die uns umgibt, ist der Dünger auf den Feldern des ewigen Wachstums, von dem nicht wir alle, sondern nur sehr wenige profitieren... Having resurrected a range of centuries-old techniques, glassmakers such as A.V.E.M, Archimede Seguso, Barovier & Toso, and Venini learned to apply this knowledge in new and ingenious ways. Their work is a synthesis of the master glassmakers’ craftsmanship and the designers’ artistry. The objects they create attest to a successful renaissance of glass design that continues to the present day.
Displaying a selection of objects from the Holz Collection in Berlin, one of the most important private collections of 20th and 21st century Murano glass anywhere in the world, this is the first comprehensive exhibition of glassware that continues to set new standards in Milan and Venice.

Hypopyrrhus pyrohypogaster
(Red-bellied Grackle / Cacique candela)
The red-bellied grackle is endemic to Colombia where it is found in all three Andean ranges at altitudes of 800 to 2,400m (2,600 to 7,900ft) above sea level.
Its natural habitat is tropical forest, but the trees are increasingly being felled for timber and to make way for agriculture, and little virgin forest remains within its range.
H. pyrohypogaster was formerly classified as "endangered" by the International Union for Conservation of Nature but in 2012 the threat level was lowered to "vulnerable". This is on the basis that, although its forest habitat remains under pressure, it has been found at some new locations where it was not known before. The total population is now estimated to be in the range 2,500 to 9,999 individuals.
Shiomi Nawate (塩見縄手) is a street by the northern moat of the castle. It used to be a residential area for upper class Samurais. The area is conserved as a historic district.
The house in the photo seems to be still used as a residence. Samurai houses are the basis for the modern Japanese architecture.
Matsue City with a population of 200 thousand is the capital of the Shimane prefecture. It is the largest city on the Japan Sea coast in the western part of the Honshuu Island. It has a tradition of appreciating art and culture probably owing to Matsudaira Fumai Harusato, who was a tea ceremony master.
It is also known as a city of water thanks to its lagoon side location and a well conserved network of moats.
Als liefhebber van de Franse diesellocomotieven van de reeks 67200, 67300 en 67400 mocht ik een fototrip in de Auvergne vanzelfsprekend niet aan mij laten voorbijgaan. Tot eind december 2022 waren zij verscheidene dagen per week te zien op de sublieme spoorlijn 722 000 van Neussargues naar Béziers. Persoonlijk vind ik deze spoorlijn zo typisch voor het land; het is enkelsporig en voorzien van stokoude bovenleidingsuitrusting, het doorkruist de mooie landschappen doorheen de Auvergne en het kent nauwelijks treinverkeer. Zelfs zo weinig dat er een tijd lang over het voortbestaan werd gediscussieerd op hoger niveau. Maar wat blijkt; er was toch geld gevonden om de spoorlijn een grondige opknapbeurt te geven. Afgelopen zomer was de spoorlijn een lange tijd gesloten om haar eens goed onder handen te nemen.
In de zomer van 2022 was er nog geen vuiltje aan de lucht. Wie had toen gedacht dat zij hun laatste maanden aan het vervullen waren. De 67400’en die ook toegelaten waren in België, doorbrachten er hun zomerverlof wanneer er geen campagne uit Quenast aan de gang was. Met drie slagen per week naar Saint-Chély-d’Apcher, hadden ze er hun bezigheid wel. Bovendien was de bediening van SMDA in Mont-Dore en op sporadische basis de bediening in het station van Lezoux ook aan de 67400 toegewezen, al was voor deze laatste een portie geluk een vereiste. De bediening voor staalgigant ArcelorMittal stond in de spotlights. Je kunt je er een hele dag mee plezieren, daar de snelheid toen erg laag lag en inhaalpogingen zeker mogelijk waren. Met wat goedgezinde weergoden, trok je met een waardevol SD-kaartje weer huiswaarts.
Op 13 juni 2022 genoten de drie fotografen van wat zo past bij de term “la douce France”. De 67471 en 67559 bundelden hun vermogen om de aanvoer van de dag in twee stukken naar de eindklant te brengen. De coils komen hier uit alle windrichtingen, waaronder Duinkerke, Fos-sur-Mer maar ook pakweg het Duitse Ziltendorf. Het geheel gaat als trein 436503 door de zogeheten “Les Causses”. De trein nadert zijn eindbestemming in Saint-Chély-d’Apcher.

Ra's al Ghul, aka The Demon's Head, is one of the Detective's most formidable and cunning foes.
Ra's is one of the more simple figures of the collection. He is based entirely off of his appearance from Batman: the Animated Series and as such is rather plain in terms of costuming. His head was the first piece constructed for the entire collection and was initially used as the standard design basis for other early characters such as Mad Hatter and (the later unused) Slade Wilson.
Also fun fact, apparently...I completely forgot to turn on the Lazarus pit lights for the entirety of BW...so...surprise?

Op basis van informatie uit een foto van Björn Nielsen zou het in de avonden mogelijk kunnen zijn om een aanvoertrein van HVLE naar Blankenburg vast te leggen. Echter was dit informatie van een aantal jaren geleden en niet geheel zeker of het nog actueel was. Uit een andere foto, die iets actueler was, kwam de tijd van rond de klok van 20:00 naar voren en dan rijdt de trein nog voor Abellio uit. Dus werd gehoopt dat alle informatie nog relevant was.
Op vrijdagavond lukte het niet omdat de trein niet reed, zaterdagavond kwam er alleen een losse kar langs en zondagavond was het bewolkt in de avond.
Maandagavond was de allerlaatste mogelijkheid om een poging te wagen om toch nog een aanvoertrein te fotograferen. Nadat eerst nog om 19:20 Abellio voorbij reed, was het weer stil. Er begonnen tevens ook nog sluiers richting de zon te ontstaan, dus het zou dus nog spannend gaan worden. Toen een uur later nog niks en uiteindelijk de volgende trein van Abellio weer voorbij kwam naar Blankenburg en de sluiers toch wel snel naderde, begon ik de hoop bijna weer op te geven dat het alsnog niet ging lukken en met 0-resultaat deze stek verliet. Toch bleef ik de moed behouden en was ik bereid om tot de laatste mogelijke zonnestralen te blijven staan.
Gelukkig kwam dan Ein-de-lijk na drie mislukte pogingen, om 20:21 een Zilver-oranje neus achter de heuvel vandaan gereden en werd toch flink opgelucht en enthousiast uitgekeken om deze fraaie trein af te drukken. De Sluiers vormde nog wel een dreiging, maar deze waren nog net niet zover gekomen om gelukkig zowel de stek als de stad Halberstadt in de achtergrond, de stad waar ik tevens deze vakantie verbleef, in het zonnetje te houden.
In de allerlaatste zonnestralen van de maandagavond passeert de HVLE V330.1, alias 250 002, met een lange aanvoertrein bestaand uit 22 fraaie kübelwagens en 18 Falns de fotograaf aan de rand van Halberstadt onderweg vanuit Beddingen naar Blankenburg en vanuit daar met elektrische tractie in delen naar Rübeland. Hiermee kon ik zeer tevreden weer terugkeren naar mijn hotel.

Deze toren hoort bij de kerk op de marinebasis, waar ik absoluut niet mocht fotograferen, zelfs niet door het hek heen.
Maar van afstand kon hem wel zien.

As part of the so-called Bourbon Reforms, devised to limit the powers of the Church and of unscrupulous nobility and to further the economic reconstruction of the Spanish Empire, Charles III (1716-1788), king of Spain, also set great store by the revitalisation of the sciences. One of his projects was the Expedición Botánica al Virreinato de Nueva España sent to Mexico 1787-1803. It was led jointly by a Spaniard, physician Martín Sessé y Lacastra (1751-1808), and a native Spanish-Mexican José Marino Mociño (1757-1820). Besides exploring and collecting it was their task to found a Botanical Garden at Mexico City. Obviously they garnered many plants, which were also relayed to Europe.
One of these - arriving in England by the early 1820s - was the pictured Fuchsia arborescens or arborea. Our botanists had found it near the city of Uruapán in the state of Michoacán. In England it was scientifically described in 1823 by John Sims (1749-1831), the first editor of Curtis's Botanical Magazine, on the basis of plants grown from the seed brought back to England by that curious English jack-of-all trades - jeweller, antiquarian, naturalist, miner, business man, traveller and even utopian - William Bullock (1773-1849), who'd gone to Mexico for an unsuccessful silver mining enterprise.
We gave some young students the opportunity to work on climate change by graphic design.

It seems that I haven't uploaded anything here in forever.....time to rectify that.
It is part of a larger complex which also includes a two-level retirement home, St. Hildegardis. I was surprised to learn that it no longer functions as such, but now houses refugees from Ukraine, which meant that we weren't allowed inside. That is unfortunate, as there are some great spaces--especially a very sculptural ramp out of bricks and concrete. I hope that they will be preserved, as the structure is currently being renovated, but I couldn't tell to which extent.
I worked on an (unbuilt) addition to the structure back in the 90's and the clients back then wanted that ramp taken out in order to make more room for the dining area.
The security guard wouldn't let us in and simply couldn't understand 'why people came by on a daily basis and wanted to take pictures?'
I'll include some exterior images..hopefully sooner than later.
I'm back from a month-long illness. So happy to be able to do what I love if only on a limited basis.

Op de huidige locatie werd in 1784 een molen gebouwd, die na brand in 1857 weer werd herbouwd.
De eigenaar is sinds 1996 de Stichting Molen De Zwaluw die de korenmolen in 1996/1997 liet restaureren. Thans is de molen zeer geregeld op vrijwillige basis in bedrijf.

A mill was built at the current location in 1784, which was rebuilt after a fire in 1857.
Since 1996, the owner has been the Molen De Zwaluw Foundation, which had the flour mill restored in 1996/1997. The mill is now very regularly in operation on a voluntary basis.
Nog steeds rijdt Rail Force One op onregelmatige basis met graantreinen vanaf Coevorden naar Kijfhoek. Omdat deze trein vorige keer het nogal wat poetswerk benodigde, werd een herkansing gemaakt in de bekende boog bij Nijkerk. Inmiddels stond de zon hier prima en werd de graantrein dit keer getrokken door de schone en van nieuwe wielen voorziene 1837, die we hier als trein 63117 in de bekende boog zien in een heerlijk lentezonnetje op 10 april 2019.
That picture really sums up wht you get to see on the regular basis when following the icelandic ring road.
On one side, the sea.
It usually comes after a usually short part of flat land.
On the other, a cliff. Unpenetrable, with only one way out : a waterfall if you're a drop.
And some clouds above your head, clouds that filter the sun light in some also usually picturesque manner.

Not my normal type of photography, i just liked this yard for some odd reason.
Walking under Utrecht’s Dom Tower (domtoren), towards the main building of St. Martin's Cathedral (domkerk). The lifting hatch (hijsluik) found in every room of the domtoren can be seen at the top of the photo. The six-meter high statue of a torch-bearing woman by sculptor Corinne Franzen-Heslenfeld atop a four-meter high stone pedestal is the Verzetsmonument, in honor of the Dutch resistance during the Second World War. The monument is on the Cathedral Square, where the central nave of the cathedral was before it collapsed in a storm in 1674.

De huidige molen is in 1910 gebouwd op de tegenwoordige locatie als stellingmolen, toen de oude molen (een grondzeiler) in 1910 afbrandde. De toenmalige eigenaar, H. van de Poll Czn., heeft gebruik gemaakt van een binnenkruier uit 1776, die in het Westfriese Barsingerhorn als één van de vier poldermolens van de Kaagpolder toen overbodig werd. Hieraan herinneren nog de kruikrammen in het boventafelement.
Reeds enige jaren na de bouw ging de molen over in eigendom van een kleine boerencoöperatie, die de molen in 1926 overdeed aan P. Schuurman. Tot de jaren '90 bleef de molen in bezit van deze familie.
Na een zeer omvangrijke restauratie in 1977-78 werd na een lange tijd van stilstand weer koren op vrijwillige basis gemalen voor enkele warme bakkers en particuliere verkoop. In 1999 onderging de molen opnieuw een restauratie en toen zijn de ontsierende bijgebouwen gesloopt. In 2009 kreeg de molen een nieuwe lange spruit en in 2011 werd de korte spruit vernieuwd. Tevens werden bij de werkzaamheden in 2011 de koppen van de voeghouten aangegoten en werd het aangetaste ondertafelement aan de westzijde hersteld.

Pitch Drop, 2016, Julian Charrière
Pitch Drop (2016) refers to the experiment of the same name.
The experiment, begun in 1930 in a laboratory in New Zealand, that has been studying the dripping behavior of hard and rock-like pitch for some 90 years.
Charrière's work takes up this lengthy process: The time-based sculpture drips once every ten years, following a rhythm of centuries beyond the human lifespan.
Until the upper container would be empty,
more than 10,000 years would pass.
This enormous time span corresponds to the duration of the Holocene so far,
the period in the history of the Earth that marks the evolution of humankind
development of humankind from the Neolithic period to the
present.
I have seen the work of art years ago in Düsseldorf and could already notice minimal changes, but it has not yet come to the formation of drops.
It is also a good experiment to show that nuclear waste repositories, no matter in what hard sediment, will be in flux over the millennia.

The extraction of tar or pitch is probably very old. While tar is clearly a product of dry distillation from woods or coals, pitch, on the other hand, can be described as a by-product of tar production. Tar has an oily consistency and remains semi-liquid or viscous, while pitch retains its viscous property only at high heat and hardens when cooled.
The basic material of coal is mainly of plant origin.
Typical coal formation takes its beginning in extensive swamp forests of lowlands. The trees bind carbon dioxide, CO2 from the air by means of photosynthesis and convert it into the carbohydrate cellulose and other organic compounds.
After individual trees die, they sink into the swamp and are thus removed from the normal aerobic decomposition process - peat is initially formed.
Coal is formed from the peat when subsidence occurs over geological periods of time, i.e. many tens of millions of years, and overburden.

ist die Grundlage und Credo unserer modernen Industriegesellschaft, die somit in Sekundenbruchteilen abermillionen an Tonnen an CO2 produziert, durch die Verbrennung von Rohstoffen, die sich über millionen von Jahren langsam aufgebaut haben.

Pitch Drop (2016) nimmt Bezug auf das gleichnamige Ex-
periment, 1930 in Neuseeland im Labor begonnen, das seit rund 90 Jahren das Tropfverhalten von hartem und felsgleichen Pech untersucht.
Diesen langwierigen Prozess nimmt Charrières Werk auf: Die zeitbasierte Skulptur tropft einmal alle zehn Jahre und folgt somit einem Rhythmus von Jahrhunderten, der über die menschliche Lebensspanne hinausgeht.
Bis der obere Behälter leer wäre,
würden über 10’000 Jahre vergehen.
Diese enorme Zeitspanne entspricht der bisherigen Dauer des Holozäns,
dem Zeitabschnitt der Erdgeschichte, der die Entwicklung
der Menschheit von der Jungsteinzeit bis in die Gegen-
wart umfasst.

Ich habe das Kunstwerk vor Jahren in Düsseldorf schon gesehen und konnte minimale Veränderungen schon feststellen aber zur Tropfenbildung ist es noch nicht gekommen.
Charrière verdeutlicht auch mit diesem
Werk, welche unvorstellbar langen Zeiträume die Erdge-
schichte im Vergleich zu menschlichen Massstäben
kennzeichnen.

Die Gewinnung von Teer bzw. Pech ist vermutlich sehr alt. Während Teer eindeutig ein Produkt trockener Destillation aus Hölzern oder Kohlen ist, kann man Pech dagegen als ein Folgeprodukt der Teerherstellung bezeichnen. Teer besitzt eine ölige Konsistenz und bleibt halbflüssig bzw. zäh, Pech dagegen behält seine zähflüssige Eigenschaft nur bei großer Hitze und härtet bei Erkalten aus.
Das Ausgangsmaterial von Kohle ist hauptsächlich pflanzlichen Ursprungs.
Typische Kohlebildung nimmt ihren Anfang in ausgedehnten Sumpfwäldern von Tiefebenen. Die Bäume binden mittels Photosynthese Kohlendioxid, CO2 aus der Luft und wandeln es in das Kohlenhydrat Zellulose und andere organische Verbindungen um.
Nach dem Absterben einzelner Bäume versinken diese im Sumpf und werden so dem normalen aeroben Zersetzungsprozess entzogen – es entsteht zunächst Torf.
Aus dem Torf entsteht Kohle, wenn es zu Absenkung über geologische Zeiträume hinweg, also viele dutzend Millionen Jahre kommt und zu Überdeckungen.
Dabei steigen mit zunehmender Versenkungstiefe sowohl der Umgebungsdruck als auch die Umgebungstemperatur bis weit über 1000°. Dies verursacht die sogenannte Inkohlung der torfigen Sedimente.
Dabei entsteht zunächst Braunkohle. Mit zunehmender Versenkung intensiviert sich die Inkohlung. Aus Braunkohle wird Steinkohle und schließlich Anthrazit. Deshalb ist die Qualität von Kohle oft umso besser, je tiefer sie in der Erde liegt und je älter sie ist.
Ähnliche Prozesse laufen bei der Entstehung von Öl und Gas ab. Der Künstler möchte uns die Zeitspanne unserer Verschwendung und der entsprechenden Klima- und Erdschädigung in der Proportion zur Entstehungszeit der fossilen Energieträger verdeutlichen ...

Eingangstor zur einer Basis für die ersten Nuklearraketen auf dem Gebiet der DDR. Heute erinnern nur die Birken daran. Damals zur Tarnung "Ingenieurtechnische Brigade" genannt.
Es ist für mich beeindruckend, dass in diesen Zimmern Menschen gelebt haben, Militärgeschichte geschrieben wurde, und heute gehen dort die Rehe spazieren als wenn dort nie etwas anderes als Wiese gewesen wäre. Sah aus wie für die Ewigkeit gebaut und stand doch nur so kurze Zeit.

Since yesterday's photo about change, I've been thinking about some things. I've thought a lot about life, about love, about hobbies, about work and careers, about friends and family. I've also thought a lot about photography and in particular this 365 project.
I've learned a heck of a lot from my 365 and I've gained a lot of experience working with my camera and Photoshop. But the most important thing I've learned is this: if I want things from life, it's up to me to go and get them. Nobody's going to be holding a sign telling me what to do and where to go. It's up to me to find out who I am and who I want to be, and to run full-sprint towards my goals.
294 days ago I didn't have a lot of passion for photography. Now I can't imagine life without it. And I know whichever direction I go in my life, photography will be front and centre.
I want to thank every single person who's ever commented or liked my photos, and especially say thankyou to all those of you who've given me motivation and pushed me when I needed it. And thankyou to those of you who make me laugh and smile on a daily basis. I really, really, really, really appreciate it more than words could say.
The Breakers is a Vanderbilt mansion located on Ochre Point Avenue, Newport, Rhode Island, United States on the Atlantic Ocean. The building became a National Historic Landmark in 1994, and is a contributing property to the Bellevue Avenue Historic District. It is owned and operated by the Preservation Society of Newport County and is open for visitation on a year-round basis.
The Breakers was built as the Newport summer home of Cornelius Vanderbilt II, a member of the wealthy United States Vanderbilt family. It is built in an architectural style based on the Italian Renaissance.

Berufsschul-Mittagspause auf dem Bahnhof Neu-Ulm verbracht und dabei meine Lieblingsloktyp aufgenommen, 118 010-8 vor einem Eilzug von Ulm über Donauwörth und Ingolstadt nach Regensburg.
Der Bahnhof Neu-Ulm ist inzwischen tiefergelegt worden.
Basis für dieses Foto war ein Kodachrome 64 Dia aufgenommen mit Rollei 35.
Blokarten of ook wel blowkarten of strandzeilen genoemd staat bekend om de wendbaarheid en snelheid die de kart heeft. Gedurende de activiteit wordt je de basis geleerd van het blokarten, waaronder rijden, draaien en driften. De blokart heeft één zitje voor één persoon. Je kan de kart wel met meerder personen delen. Hierdoor ontstaat de gelegenheid om elkaar te helpen en aan te moedigen wat zorgt voor een leuke interactie!
Het uitgestrekte, brede strand van 's-Gravenzande in Westland of Hoek van Holland is ideaal om te blokarten. Binnen enkele minuten scheer je al over het strand richting Scheveningen of Hoek van Holland. Een spectaculaire tocht die je niet snel zal vergeten.
