This is an F. J. Schlueter [early Houston architectural shooter] photograph, likely taken during the 1920s. Originally built in 1921, Humble Oil Co. was the first commercial building in Houston to have air conditioning (added in 1932). I can only imagine that neighboring office buildings' tenants were highly jealous.

This photo was taken from Main St & Polk St.., facing North, on what is now the back side of the building. The tower piece of Humble Tower was build in 1936, and the wing that connected the tower to the Humble Oil Co.'s 1921 building, was built in 1940, according to Greater Houston Preservation Alliance.

I've recently taken a particular interest in this building, and the kind folks at the Houston Public Library ~ Julia Ideson building, Texas Room dug this up for me. Those folks are incredible, and if you haven't researched any old Houston photography at this place, I suggest you pay them a visit. They'll even print any of their archive for you, for very reasonable rates.

One of my architectural shoots.

Just when I thought that today would be the best day for architecture shooting, the sun went behind the cluttered clouds and gave me a very soft light to play with.

A shot from my today' s session at Majid Wazir Khan.

one evening and one morning I walked arround the hotel with my H3DII and tried to find interresting angles.... the weather was just perfect and so was the breakfast :-)

This is a shot from an architectural shoot I did for the developer of this beautiful Condo building in Coral Gables, Florida. He used them in a brochure to market the project.

Ambient Light was good enough for this shot, then minor adjustments in CS5.

jackzilla: @kaxdd how do you like the Voigtlander lenses? I'm thinking about getting the 40mm 1.4

kaxdd: @jackzilla I'm loving my 21mm lens! Sharp enough for me! As for the slight distortion, it doesn't bother me too much since I'm not a architecture shooter. For a fraction of the price of a Leica, this Voigtlander lens has served me well. I heard the 40mm F1.4 is a good lens. Leica is out of my reach, so I'm sticking to Canon and Voigtlander lenses. 

jackzilla: @kaxdd awesome! Yeah I've heard they are pretty great lenses. I see also you have an R4m. How do you like the camera? I've been researching different M-mount cameras and have it down to a couple, the R3M being one.

kaxdd: @jackzilla My R4M is good! Totally fit my 21mm without an external viewfinder! I have not much of a complaint for this combination. The built quality and handling works well for me. Also, I prefer 21mm and 35mm, so this is the camera for me. 

indrafuzzy: @kaxdd; hey, just asking. What's that on your hotshoe?

kaxdd: @indrafuzzy That's a VC-II meter.

Aarhus Ø

Aarhus Island is a whole new city, which has arisen in connection with the expansion of the neighboring harbor areas in Aarhus. The water and the harbor have always had an important significance for Aarhus, and at the moment there is a fantastic change in the entire harbor area near the city center.

Aarhus is the youngest district in Aarhus

Here the architects have free play and new and modern architecture shoots up and blends with the city's existing architecture and environments. The distinctive construction of the iceberg has already become an icon at the entrance to Aarhus along with another architectural gem, Lighthouse.

The whole area now stands as a charming canal town, and with the south facing staircase in front of Navitas, you can walk from the cafés in the city center and down and dip your toes at the water's edge in minutes.

Life and activity on Aarhus Ø

There is a lot of happening on Aarhus Island, and you have to finally look past:

E-Haven

Ø-Haven is a town garden located at the tip of Aarhus Ø between Isbjerget and Lighthouse on Pier 4. The city center of Aarhus is actually Denmark's largest and aims to offer the city's citizens a small utility garden where you can grow flowers, vegetables, herbs and more. Read more at oehaven.dk

watchtower

A lot of exciting things are happening on Aarhus Island, and the area has also got its very own lookout tower. The tower, measuring 15 meters from top to toe, is not just a lookout but also an architecturally beautiful sculpture designed by Dorte Mandrup.

Aarhus Havbane

If you are swimming, Aarhus Havbane is just for you. At the end of Aarhus Island you will find Aarhus' Garden Lane, which is 500 meters long. The sea lane is approved by the Maritime Authority and marked by yellow and orange bends, which means that all ships are prohibited from sailing on the track. See more at aarhushavbane.dk.

Navitas

Navitas is one of the many buildings that have recently been shot on the waterfront in Aarhus, close to Aarhus Ø. The star-shaped building is well worth a visit, not least for its architectural appearance, but also the beautiful outdoor areas around the building that has become a favorite haven for pure relaxation by the water. See more at nsi-navitas.dk.

MY POOL

Take the MIN PORT route, which is a mobile application. gives 10 stories about life in Aarhus' new district.

Even more projects are on the way to Aarhus Ø, among other things, architect Bjarke Ingels is behind some of the thoughts of the area where urban space and landscape are reconsidered.

Playing with exposition.

i'm up for an architectural shoot--which i was totally unprepared for--so i had to pull a bunch a samples quickly. found a lot of stuff i liked that i've never shown anyone. i'll try to post more soon. this is a four-year old shot taken of the hunt building in dallas from the highway below. i forget if that's called woodall-rogers or the mixmaster right there. but the wall and bridge do add a nice bit of framing.

The Abandoned Flour Mill is Soon to be Turned into a Trendy Retail and Residential Complex.

Built in 1930, the Mill continued operations for more than 72 years till 2002.

Quite a lot of demolition (mainly externally) has been done since last week when I took some photos here.
