Aarhus Ø

Aarhus Island is a whole new city, which has arisen in connection with the expansion of the neighboring harbor areas in Aarhus. The water and the harbor have always had an important significance for Aarhus, and at the moment there is a fantastic change in the entire harbor area near the city center.

Aarhus is the youngest district in Aarhus

Here the architects have free play and new and modern architecture shoots up and blends with the city's existing architecture and environments. The distinctive construction of the iceberg has already become an icon at the entrance to Aarhus along with another architectural gem, Lighthouse.

The whole area now stands as a charming canal town, and with the south facing staircase in front of Navitas, you can walk from the cafés in the city center and down and dip your toes at the water's edge in minutes.

Life and activity on Aarhus Ø

There is a lot of happening on Aarhus Island, and you have to finally look past:

E-Haven

Ø-Haven is a town garden located at the tip of Aarhus Ø between Isbjerget and Lighthouse on Pier 4. The city center of Aarhus is actually Denmark's largest and aims to offer the city's citizens a small utility garden where you can grow flowers, vegetables, herbs and more. Read more at oehaven.dk

watchtower

A lot of exciting things are happening on Aarhus Island, and the area has also got its very own lookout tower. The tower, measuring 15 meters from top to toe, is not just a lookout but also an architecturally beautiful sculpture designed by Dorte Mandrup.

Aarhus Havbane

If you are swimming, Aarhus Havbane is just for you. At the end of Aarhus Island you will find Aarhus' Garden Lane, which is 500 meters long. The sea lane is approved by the Maritime Authority and marked by yellow and orange bends, which means that all ships are prohibited from sailing on the track. See more at aarhushavbane.dk.

Navitas

Navitas is one of the many buildings that have recently been shot on the waterfront in Aarhus, close to Aarhus Ø. The star-shaped building is well worth a visit, not least for its architectural appearance, but also the beautiful outdoor areas around the building that has become a favorite haven for pure relaxation by the water. See more at nsi-navitas.dk.

Even more projects are on the way to Aarhus Ø, among other things, architect Bjarke Ingels is behind some of the thoughts of the area where urban space and landscape are reconsidered.

These are from a recent architectural shoot I did. Most of them are composites made up of 5-10 photos. It takes a little longer this way but the results are worth the extra effort. I had four lights out and in every shot, I placed the lights in different areas of the room.

Architectural photo, Interior of Miss Sophie’s Hostel (www.miss-sophies.com) - Private twin room. Prague 2, Czech Republic. Photography by J Mark Stewart. Please visit www.blackgecko.cz for contact information.

Strobist: Ambient from the large window provides the main light here, but I set up an SB-800 on a stand in the corner to cam R as fill to balance the light in the back part of the room. The -800 was “bare bulb” (nikon diffuser cap), and was on a stand on the bed, bouncing off the ceiling and walls. The goal of that light was to light the foreground bed, and balance the light coming in the window. SB-800 was triggered by a PocketWizard Plus-2.

C & C welcome.

The architecture shoot last Sunday turned out to be more of a street photography shoot. It was unusual seeing people in low energy state in South Mumbai.

This is around my preferred aperture, being a landscape / architecture shooter, but optically you're probably better around f5.6-f8 ... as you can see the depth of field is quite good on a crop sensor at this aperture.

I just got this amazing lens. If you look at this pic's EXIF, it says 100mm f/5.6. I am using an adapter with programable focus confirm chip (OPTIX V5) and it is still programmed for my Contax 100/2. And why f/5.6? I dont know why, but it was programmed as f/2. I may have pressed the program button by accident.

This pic was shot @ f/4. Amazing sharpness! Cant wait to use it for architecture shoots

I always love finding interesting stuff to shoot when out and about and I recently stumbled across this abandoned car when on an architectural shoot for a client. It was completely overgrown with weeds, banana skins and covered in graffiti and trash inside. I would love to know the story of how it ended up in this small alley in central London.....

MY POOL

Take the MIN PORT route, which is a mobile application. gives 10 stories about life in Aarhus' new district.

Even more projects are on the way to Aarhus Ø, among other things, architect Bjarke Ingels is behind some of the thoughts of the area where urban space and landscape are reconsidered.

This is an F. J. Schlueter [early Houston architectural shooter] photograph, likely taken during the 1920s. Originally built in 1921, Humble Oil Co. was the first commercial building in Houston to have air conditioning (added in 1932). I can only imagine that neighboring office buildings' tenants were highly jealous.

This photo was taken from Main St & Polk St.., facing North, on what is now the back side of the building. The tower piece of Humble Tower was build in 1936, and the wing that connected the tower to the Humble Oil Co.'s 1921 building, was built in 1940, according to Greater Houston Preservation Alliance.

I've recently taken a particular interest in this building, and the kind folks at the Houston Public Library ~ Julia Ideson building, Texas Room dug this up for me. Those folks are incredible, and if you haven't researched any old Houston photography at this place, I suggest you pay them a visit. They'll even print any of their archive for you, for very reasonable rates.

Architecture Shoot Marriott - St. Regis - Bora Bora

One of my architectural shoots.

Just when I thought that today would be the best day for architecture shooting, the sun went behind the cluttered clouds and gave me a very soft light to play with.

A shot from my today' s session at Majid Wazir Khan.
