the photo of last week was a detail of the hull of a boat (a ferry in Ajaccio harbour) - no winners this time; we'll play again !
They are leg bones of an extinct flightless bird called the moa. Moa were native to New Zealand but went extinct 700 years ago after people came to the islands and over hunted them. Moa were unique in that they didn't have wings. Most flightless birds have tiny wings, but moa lost them completely. Some didn't even have sockets for wings to fit into.
