View to the SW from Avalanche Peak, New Zealand. Dappled light on a beautiful day! Tough hike to get here but well worth it. The mountains are rising fast (being on a plate boundary), and are wearing down fast as well! This area drains into the Waimakariri River, an amazing watercourse that is so choked with sediment of all sizes that it can be a mile wide in places and has channels that change their course over time. A classic example of a braided river. In the southern hemisphere, the snow lasts longest on south-facing slopes like that just below.

Bow Lake, located about 30 minutes north of Lake Louise, is one of the largest lakes in Banff National Park. Sitting at an elevation of 1,920 meters, it is fed by meltwater from the Bow Glacier in the Wapta Icefield. On a calm day, the lake’s clear, aquamarine waters create a near-perfect reflection of Bow Summit. A stunning stop along the Icefields Parkway.

Hiking in the Bernese Alps, starting with a cable car ride from Hasliberg to Mägisalp, Switzerland, and ending at Alpen Tower / Planplatten.

This is for me the typical Swiss scenery many tourist like to see when visiting Switzerland. High, rugged mountains covered with snow and glaciers, some cows grazing on green alpine meadows. And of course the clear and clean air.

I also love this landscape, and there is nothing more beautiful than hiking and enjoying such a scenery.

Close to the village of Arsha in the Kazbegi region lies the Arsha Waterfall, about five kilometers from Stepantsminda Kazbegi. The hike to the waterfall is considered easy and typically takes three to four hours. The trail is unpaved but well-trodden, surrounded by lush meadows, and offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The waterfall is one of the lesser-known natural attractions in the area, contributing to its untouched and serene atmosphere. A bit further along is the Toti Waterfall, accessible via a steep trail that passes above the Arsha Waterfall. This waterfall offers spectacular panoramic views and is an ideal spot for a picnic. Visitors can enjoy the tranquility, the breathtaking nature, and even take a refreshing dip in the crystal-clear water. For adventure seekers, it's possible to continue the hike to the nearby Gergeti Glacier, making the journey a full-day excursion.

The journey to the waterfall close to the village of Arsha in the Kazbegi region is a true challenge, yet also a breathtaking experience. The trail winds through rugged, arid terrain with steep inclines and loose rocks. Hikers must be well-prepared, as certain sections can be demanding and exhausting. The Toti Waterfall is less known and therefore quieter, adding to its pristine and serene atmosphere. The Toti Waterfall cascades down a steep rock face, surrounded by rugged cliffs and alpine vegetation. The crystal-clear water and stunning surroundings make it an ideal spot for nature lovers and hikers seeking adventure. The waterfall is accessible via a steep trail that runs above the Arsha Waterfall, offering spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and valleys along the way.

I waited for this moment when storm clouds wrapped around the summit of Dent d'Orlu, creating an atmosphere both threatening and majestic. The contrast between the austere rock face and the verdant slopes particularly struck me. A break in the clouds illuminated the mountain face, revealing its mineral texture, while the dark skies reinforced its monumental presence. I wanted to capture this dramatic mood that so perfectly reflects the wild character of the Ariège Pyrenees.

The hike from Stepantsminda to Gergeti Trinity Church is one of the most beautiful and iconic hikes in Georgia. This route offers breathtaking views of the Caucasus, with the imposing Mount Kazbek (5,054 meters) as a spectacular backdrop. Stepantsminda is a small mountain village that serves as a base for adventurers and hikers. The village is located at an altitude of approximately 1,740 meters. From here the hike starts towards the Gergeti Tower, a viewpoint halfway along the route. From the tower you already have a beautiful view of the valley and Stepantsminda. The tower is part of a network of historical fortifications, typical for the mountainous region of Georgia. In the past, these towers were often owned by local clans and served to protect the community and the surrounding land. After the tower, the trail climbs further through a variety of grasslands and rocky terrain. The climb is fairly steep, but easily doable for hikers with average fitness. After about two hours of walking (approx. 3-4 km) you will reach the iconic Gergeti Trinity Church, located at an altitude of 2,170 meters. The church, built in the 14th century, is not only an architectural highlight but also an important spiritual and cultural symbol of Georgia. From here you have a panoramic view of the Caucasus and the impressive Kazbek Glacier. In clear weather it is an ideal place to enjoy the peace and overwhelming nature. Do you want to skip the climb? Then it is possible to drive to the church from Stepantsminda with an 4x4. In the summer months, horse riding tours to the top are also offered. The best time for this hike is from spring to early autumn (May – October), when temperatures are pleasant and nature is in full bloom. In winter the route can be snowy, which makes the hike more challenging but also adds extra beauty to the landscape. The walk to Gergeti Trinity Church is an unforgettable experience that you should not miss when visiting Georgia.

The photo shows Kanitha climbing a steep and rocky path towards the Gergeti Trinity Church in Georgia, with the majestic Mount Kazbek in the background. Along the path, meltwater flows in the form of a small waterfall, making the route extra challenging. The presence of other hikers further ahead shows that this is a popular but challenging route. Kanitha is warmly dressed and determined to make her way up. The rugged surroundings, steep terrain and clear blue sky emphasise the impressive natural beauty of the Caucasus. The combination of the mountainous landscape, the snow-capped peak of Mount Kazbek and the narrow, wet paths makes this hike a unique and adventurous experience.
