Album design and cover illustration for a collection of music from The Hobbit & The Lord of The Rings trilogy performed by The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra.
For this release I wanted to capture more of the folky/fantasy elements to Tolkien's work than that of Peter Jackson's big screen adaptation. For this I decided to be a little obscure with the imagery, hinting at, rather than spelling out, some key aspects to the tales of Middle-earth.
The idea for the cover illustration came to me while re-watching the opening scenes to "The Fellowship of The Ring" whereby Gandalf creates an apparition of a ship from his pipe smoke. From here I began toying with the idea of creating a detailed image and hiding subtle elements within it.
"In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees"
Tonight I should be signing off an album design that I have been working on for a band. They really liked this photo I took over a year ago and wanted it as the centerfold for their CD booklet. This is how it will look. I'm really excited about finaly seeing it in print! I've been working on the design for months!

An inside page for the album, designed by another parent. We asked them to write down what they had learnt from their teacher over the two years she has taught them, what they wished for her over the summer and the year ahead and, finally, there was a box for each child to draw a picture of their experiences in the classroom. I photographed my son's page.

Now that we are coming up on our 15th wedding anniversary I figured it was time to actually finish our mini wedding album.
This is following the Simple Scrapbooks Make a wedding album design.
I've had bits and pieces of pages done, journaling left and general assembly. I'm hoping that I can do a few pages each night and complete it - FINALLY!

My buddy Matt Jackson, who I worked with last year on his album "Prove You Wrong" is prepping an EP to be released in a few months followed by a full length album in the fall.
Matt and his manager Keith contacted me about getting together to talk about images for these albums, and I jumped at the opportunity to be a fly-on-the-wall while he recorded vocals for one of his songs the other night at "The Space, a great recording studio located in Lowell MA on Western Avenue.
Here are a few behind-the-scenes shots as well as a few posed images that I got from Matt when he had a few free moments. Also included is a few album design examples that I always try to give my music clients to give them visual examples of what can be done with the images.
I'm looking forward to 2012 with Matt. Check him out. He's putting a lot of work into this new album.
