I saw this old boat in Milwaukee in a channel leading to Lake Michigan in about 1997. So I came back in my kayak and took this picture from the water. So what's to say? It's a big boat, very old. When I drove past in 2006 it was gone. Where did it go? Maybe it sank.
As part of the AFLOAT recovery project, ephemeral artist Sue Berry joined with each community to create a temporary public artwork using items that workshop participants brought along together with objects found. These footprints symbolically connected the communities and enable people to discuss their experience of the 2010/2011 floods through art and community building.
The village I was visiting was extremely remote. Not only did I need to take a one hour ferry ride across one of Bangladesh's major rivers, I had to then take a small boat ride followed by a ride on a donkey-driven cart. Like many of the small wooden boats in this country, they quickly take on water. One of the workers on the boat was scooping water out of the boat as we went along.
