A polarizing filter on a sunny day with no wind makes for a great experience. I felt like I was swimming among the fronds...never mind that the water was 38 degrees (F)...
Faber-Castell fine artist pen (found on the street), fine Sharpie and sketching pencil HB with blending stump.
I know it looks bad, but I'm told that the plant -- generating wood pulp -- emits mostly water vapor. As for the sea lions, they are a protected species and are doubly protected by how dang loud their barks are. Plus they feast on salmon.
On the downside, a pod of orcas came into town and had their fill of sea lions while Brad & I were away. I did see the orcas later when I was over at the Narrows. I saw their dorsal fins from far away but didn't get close enough to get any photos and they were definitely on the move northward.
I was able to get this shot after Brad graciously loaned me his sliding-seat rowing dory and sent me on my way south. He emphasized that in a boat, you may think you have a fast enough shutter speed -- based on land shots -- but you're still wobbling, so speed up the shutter. That advice definitely helped.
As much as it was a colourful and classically Thai photo-op, the floating market at Damnuen Saduak has largely become a tourist trap. By the time we left there must have been at leat 50 or 60 tour buses disgorging their contents into the market. It is kind of hard to believe, but I have been coming to Thailand for 11 years and this was my first time to visit a floating market there.
