Dreamy and Ethereal. That’s how I would describe the scene of the cypress swamps. Our instructors Rajesh and Kevin just returned from our Cypress Swamps adventure. I can’t wait to see what they captured this year!
I call this series “Icelandic Pools.” There are certainly no shortages of cold, warm, hot, boiling pools in the Iceland highland. Did I already say how much I love this landscape? Which of these pools is your favorite?
On our trip to the iron range, we learned we had timed it perfectly to coincide with the distinctive Aspen trees in full bloom. In a colorful scene, the 909, still painted in the distinctive Bessemer scheme, leads empties back to the processing plants for more taconite for the docks in Duluth.
Anything can happen in the next half hour. This juvenile Galah arrived with Dad this afternoon for the first time and was very alert as it surveyed its new world as can be seen by the raised crest.
Young fledged Galahs wear a grey coat over a light covering of their traditional pink feathers and this grey coat thins down as they get older, turning blotchy then to the traditional pink feathers. This one, although on its first visit as far as we know seems to have lost a lot of its grey. They are very cute as they grow and learn about their new world.
The class of '24 really didn't arrive until November. This morning we had a group of six juveniles still very much in grey all together exploring our backyard and a tiny piece of their new world.
The crest denotes a cockatoo as opposed to a parrot.

Usually the black-crowned night herons (Nycticorax nycticorax) sit very still on a branch, they look like a stuffed bird! But this time there was some action: one of the 3 black-crowned night herons moved and actually opened its wings. A good photo opportunity!
