"Ava Lavinia Gardner (December 24, 1922 – January 25, 1990) was an American actress and singer. She first signed a contract with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in 1941 and appeared mainly in small roles until she drew critics' attention in 1946 with her performance in Robert Siodmak's film noir The Killers. She was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in John Ford's Mogambo (1953), and for best actress for both a Golden Globe Award and BAFTA Award for her performance in John Huston's The Night of the Iguana (1964).

During the 1950s, Gardner established herself as a leading lady and one of the era's top stars with films like Show Boat, Pandora and the Flying Dutchman (both 1951), The Snows of Kilimanjaro (1952), The Barefoot Contessa (1954), Bhowani Junction (1956) and On the Beach (1959). She continued her film career for three more decades, appearing in the films 55 Days at Peking (1963), Seven Days in May (1964), The Bible: In the Beginning... (1966), Mayerling (1968), Tam-Lin (1970), The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean (1972), Earthquake (1974) and The Cassandra Crossing (1976). She continued to act regularly until 1986, four years before her death in 1990, at the age of 67.

In 1999, the American Film Institute ranked Gardner No. 25 on their greatest female screen legends of classic American cinema list."

The oak in the yard was already recognized by botanist Carl Linnaeus in his journey arond Gotland in 1741 (after ennoblement Carl von Linné, 1707-1778). Linnaeus wrote: "We refreshed ourselves in the scorching heat under a large oak tree that stood in the yard. The oak was one of the most significant, because its stock was 7 yards around." With modern measurement it means that the stem diameter was 4.15 meters. Today it is 6.25 meters. The oak became a protected natural monument in 1911.

'AVA' - 'WHITBY GOTH WEEKEND' - APRIL 26th 2025

Ava being just being herself, modeling my Grado SR80 headphones. It's the first time she discovered my iPod, and it would seem she liked what I had on there...

They sound great... but with a capable headphone amp they sound truly AWESOME. To be fair, especially if you listen to your music with an iPod or other portable... get a portable headphone amp and smile. (or alternately, the SR-60 headphones, which are happy being driven by the iPod's built in amplifier.)

We got out of class early and were supposed to be studying that morning... but, alas...

'AVA' - 'WHITBY GOTH WEEKEND' - APRIL 26th 2025

Happy New Year everyone! This is my winter baby Ava. She was my 2013-2014 52 wfd muse and I'm delighted to return to 12 mfd this year.

Ava turned 2 in December and there isn't much she loves more than snow. Today we have a nasty Alberta Clipper on the way which has already brought high winds and a wind chill of -30C (-22F), but she still wants to be out as much as possible playing in the snow. Polar Vortex may be her middle name.

I love this snow angel, she's my almost constant companion and sleeps pressed up against my legs every night. Thank you for letting me share her with you in this great group.

At the opening party for Pirate and Looker at Muselight, I finally met the beautiful, kind, flickr famous Ava Verino. Once I got over been a "starstruck" I remembered to take a couple pictures.
