Vehicle Details

Operator: Reading Buses

Fleet Details: 405

Registration: YR13 PLX

Vehicle Type: Scania K270UB, Alexander Dennis Enviro 300SG

A bit of a surprise when wandering down a main road in London, a one owner late registered 405 just had to be documented, I don't recall seeing an R reg knowingly before, this one was sold in October 1997, I suspect the dealer gave a fairly good discount to the buyers. Alexanders of Twickenham appear to be who sold it, who unsurprisingly are very local to the car. This was the only car on the drive of a big house, good to see the owners getting their moneys worth out of this.

Following the results of the 2022 Hungarian parliamentary elections, I decided not to bear the national symbol of a country any more where the supermajority of voters renewed assignment of an openly radical right-wing populist government, not even on a license plate, therefore I requested for a reissuance of the 1990–2004 series license plate code combination of my youngtimer in the 2004–2022 series style with a blue EU stripe and without the national flag. Even though administrative costs are relatively high, it is morally important to show pride for the EU instead of the country.

Yorkshire Coastliners buses must build up an incredible bit of milege opearting the long distance network of services between Leeds, York, Malton and the East Coast, and so breakdowns are bound to be frequent, as can be seen here by 6 year old 405, a Volvo B7L with Wright Eclipse Gemini bodywork.

Route 405 :

📍 Brighton Road / Purley Tesco, Purley, London

Tonight I had the great pleasure of shooting with Zeb. He's local legend photographer, insightful and knowledgeable teacher, and all around enjoyable person to be with.

He's really got an eye for intriguing compositions. It was an eye opening experience to walk side by side and see him point out one after the other interesting compositions that I was completely missing. And then when we did set up our tripods, I would frame the obvious, basic shot; while he would find angles and combination's that were much more eloquent and dynamic than my crude elementary choices.

It sounds ridiculous, but if we were on pianos, I'd be plinking "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" while he was filling the room with Mozart.

It's fascinating to me how photography really is about our vision. We can be in the same place, same time, and same purpose of taking a picture- and individual results can be so dramatically different. So, I like this picture for that.

On a technical note- I am shocked how much color came out of this image. I did some white balance changes, but didn't touch anything with saturation. Surprising whats out there in the dark.

New dress from George. Feels lovely on and fits perfectly. Could well become a favourite! Will test drive it this weekend when we go out for a meal.

Not the greatest picture alas; it was taken through my car's windscreen whilst driving through roadworks.

I've been after a shot of this car for a long, long time. I'll see it on the road maybe once every couple of years, always heading the other way. It's the only Bristol I've seen for decades, in fact I think the only time I've seen any others was when I lived in London around 1980.

This model was in production from 1954 to 1958. It's the only four door car that Bristol ever made. There was also a convertible version. 297 saloons and 43 convertibles were produced and today 19 in total are on the road.

I'm pretty sure this one was in Cornwall when I was a boy fifty years ago, but it's been with its present owner since 2004. It had covered 39,000 miles at its last MOT in 2017 (it's now exempt) and 18,000 in 2005. I'd imagine that to be 139,000 or even 239,000.
