[Absolute nomadism, day 38]

[Beijing Central Station, Beijing, China]

People everywhere. Loud noises. The smell, damnit, the smell. The complete chaos.

I'm smiling. This is not Europe, this is not the States, this is not Japan.

It has nothing to do with the world I know.

This is the biggest adventure of my life. This is absolute nomadism.

The Ultimate Dress-Up

Daughter 1 is a "techie" for her high school theatre group. Costumes are her specialty. She is still learning to use patterns and machines but has filled a vital role as a warm body who is actually there to organize and mend the costumes. Her former teacher told me that she had never had anyone fill those shoes before and that it was a great help. Our girl has always enjoyed hand embroidery and sewing so this is a nice fit for her. The upcoming performance for Our Town at her school requires about 20 long skirts! While the costumers and some helpful moms will be making a few from patterns, her current teacher was able to procure a loan from the local university to help with the bulk of the items. I took her down where we met her teacher and got to visit the inner workings of the university theatre! It was not only wonderful to be back on a college campus again, but doubly fun given our access to the *amazing* costume loft where the university has all of their costumes and accessories. The costumes are sorted by time periods. The items 1900 and forward actually include some vintage pieces. There are boxes and boxes of shoes, hats, wigs, belts, bins of patterns, etc. Every single item is organized methodically. They are "busting at the seams" in terms of storage but manage to keep it all very tidy and easy to navigate. Our visit also included a backstage look at the set as it was being built. They have an entire workroom with saws and welding equipment. The staff members and students were friendly, enthusiastic and are very talented! It was a nice chance for a high school student to get a feel for campus life.

A Birthday backbend with Jess {she's the best btw}!

So. . . today's my birthday. I spent nearly the whole day upside down {no joke!} and I am finally getting pincha mayurasana down!

Yoga at the wall & partner yoga= my fave.

Didn't feel like a birthday today, but it was still a good one. . .

Much love.

Heart Of Dixie Railroad Museum

Calera, AL

Built by Baldwin Locomotive Works, construction number 58101, in 1924 for the Battson-Hatten Lumber Company in Mississippi and was assigned #12 as it’s road number. As built, the Baldwin class 10-38 E 3749, came 51” drive wheels arranged in a 2-8-0 configuration. The Walschaerts valve gear, in conjunction with the 185-psi boiler, provided a tractive effort of 44,000 lbs. operating on saturated steam. The locomotive was built to burn wood or soft coal and, as a result, it carried a tall stack. Primarily, the locomotive was used to haul logs over the Gulf and Ship Island Railroad (G&SIRR) main line from Forrest County Mississippi. The Battson-Hatten Lumber Company eventually closed in May of 1932. The locomotive was then sold to the Birmingham Rail & Locomotive Co. where it was renumbered #1825. On October 14, 1935 the locomotive was acquired by the Woodward Iron Co., Woodward, AL where it was again renumbered as #38: the number it carries today. Of the original tender, only the frame remains. The present tank and coal-bunker were built by Woodward. They also replaced the original arch type trucks.

This was my first ever attempt at a semi-naked maternity shoot. I was pleased with the result and learned a lot.
