This is the strangest looking caterpillar I have ever reared… The Atlas moth is one of the largest of all moth species in the world. I have four captive bred larvae feeding well on Privet (Ligustrum ovalifolium). Each caterpillar is now 60mm, but will grow bigger! The larvae like humid jungle conditions of 25-30 degrees C, and spin cocoons in about 8 weeks from hatching.
The Atlas moth is a large saturniid found in the tropical and subtropical forests of Southeast Asia, and is common across the Malay archipelago.

I spotted this ice tower 100 feet off the road on a back country road. I have no idea what caused this.
Mourning Dove.
A 12 inch long bird with a soft, sandy buff color. They have a long pointed tail bordered with white and withblack spots on the wings.
It inhabits open fields, parks, and lawns with many trees and shrubs.
They range throughout the United States and Canada and winters in the northern United States.

Op dinsdag 9 augustus werd op de vrije dag weer even getoured langs een paar nevenlijnen. Onder andere de Maaslijn, Merwedelingelijn en Betuwelijn werden aangedaan.
De eerste hoofddoel van de dag waren de Arriva LINT-stellen van Limburg. Mede door personeelstekort en door de zomervakantie rijdt de 32300-serie al een gehele poos niet tussen Nijmegen en Venray. Om de LINT-stellen in conditie te houden wordt elke doordeweekse dag twee setjes ingezet in de 32200-serie naar Roermond.
De twee setjes rijden beide hetzelfde rondje: Venlo-Roermond-Nijmegen-Venlo.
Voor de laatste foto van de LINT werd richting Tienray gereden. Er hoefde niet lang gewacht te worden want na een kleine 5 minuten kwamen de twee oudgedienden al aangesneld.
Als RS11 32241 van Nijmegen naar Venlo passeren Arriva LINT 25+30 de fotograaf bij Tienray.

Prunus domestica is a species of flowering plant in the family Rosaceae. A deciduous tree, it includes many varieties of the fruit trees known as plums in English, though not all plums belong to this species.
The species' hybrid parentage was believed to be Prunus spinosa and Prunus cerasifera; however, recent cytogenetic evidence seem to Prunus cerasifera as the sole wild stock from which the cultivated Prunus domestica could have evolved.

I saw this bunting in town today and thought it looked quite nice against the blue sky.
That point lever there needs throwing over, and when you've done that and in quick time turn off the wretched standpipe, then and get the hose off the track. We have a job to get on with! I thought I would try water droplets with my macro lens. I got a couple of good ones out of so-many-that-I-lost-count. My timing is rubbish!
Due to its curiosity, the beaver cub comes very close, sometimes next to the rubber boot (cub length approx. 25 - 30 cm + tail length approx. 15 cm.)

Woensdag 7 juni 2023 om 6:24 uur reden de Arriva LINT41 25+30 als ledig materieel van Venlo naar Zutphen via Nijmegen ten behoeve van de concessie Arriva Oost.
Deze Linten zullen worden gereed gemaakt voor de dienst Zutphen-Oldenzaal, maar zullen tot die tijd ook op andere trajecten in het Oosten verschijnen.
Ter hoogte van Ellecom passeerden ze mij.

On Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at 6:24 am, the Arriva LINT41 25+30 drove as empty equipment from Venlo to Zutphen via Nijmegen for the Arriva East concession.
These Ribbons will be prepared for the Zutphen-Oldenzaal service, but until then they will also appear on other routes in the East.
They passed me near Ellecom.

M2 is a large, bright globular cluster in the constellation Aquarius. This image was acquired under dark skies near Goldendale, WA, using a telescope and cooled CCD camera designed for astroimaging.

Op deze bloedhete zondag stond er een Arriva Lint overbrenging van Zutphen naar Winterswijk op de planning. Rond de klok van 7 werd er van huis vertrokken om uiteindelijk in het tussen Lichtenvoorde & Ruurlo gelegen Beltrum terecht te komen. Na enige tijd wachten en zonder geplande doorkomst van het regionale verkeer werd er snel uit de auto gesprongen en konden de Arriva 25 & 30 met vriendelijk groetende machinist worden vastgelegd. Na aankomst in Winterswijk werd de 30 bij Transit Oost binnen gezet om omgestickerd te worden voor Zutphen - Oldenzaal waar Arriva het stokje van Keolis overneemt later dit jaar. Nadat de 30 omgestickerd is zal de 25 snel volgen..
Finalmente un assaggio d'inverno anche sulla Regione Carsica... Nell'area del Monte Nevoso circa 25-30 cm di neve fresca oltre i 1600 metri uniti ad un'abbondante calabrosa da Bora rendono lo scenario più consono al periodo...

The four-spotted chaser, known in North America as the four-spotted skimmer, is a dragonfly of the family Libellulidae found frequently throughout Europe, Asia, and North America
Common and widespread. The flight period extends from mid May to the end of August. The Four-spotted Chaser is one of the commonest Irish dragonflies. It is particularly common on sheltered lowland lakes and ponds. It can also be found on acid bogs breeding in very small pools and on sheltered upland lakes. Adults are aggressive and very territorial.
This species may be confused with females and immature males of the Broad-bodied Chaser Libellula depressa and the Black-tailed Skimmer Orthetrum cancellatum, however in the latter two species there is no dark spot on the middle of the leading edge of the wings.
KEY IDENTIFICATION FEATURES
Small brown patch on the middle of the leading edge of each wing, this combined with the dark pterostigma is the origin of the name "Four-spotted Chaser".
Brown tapering abdomen, becoming black towards the posterior end.
Yellow markings on sides of abdomen.
Dark brown patch at the base of the wings.

Although Pacific Harbour is 2.5 hours drive from Denaru, it is well worth the 5 hour return trip to dive with the bull sharks! Beqa Adventure Divers were awesome and provided not only the safety (of divers and the sharks) as well as the background on conservation and diversity of the sharks. In particular, the feeding is not done every day and that biopsy tests have shown that the tuna heads that they eat represent about 1% of their diet ie they eat a lot elsewhere as well.
There were about 25-35 bull sharks for the first dive at 30m and 25-30 bull sharks on the second dive at 25m. In addition, they have 2 other depths where we saw different sharks and sizes down to 0.5m sharks at 4m depth.
A wonderful day and I will definitely to it again (albeit expensive) if I go back to Fiji!

One minute there was no one on Cnicht's summit except us then from nowhere about 25-30 school children turned up with their leaders. I liked the view of them on the top with Tremadog bay in the background. The weather was stunning and a perfect spring day.

A change in the weather late yesterday and overnight meant my #monthofmornings trip out to the Tuki Tuki River mouth involved wild winds, crazy skies and the serious risk of getting wet.
The lights in the distance are the bright lights of Napier.
