The magnificent Deutche Reichsbhan #19.1001 German V-8 steam locomotive, the only one of its type ever built, was transported from Germany to the United States after World War II, and then turned into scrap metal in 1952. I took this photo in the Ft. Eustis, Virginia, rail yards in 1951-1952. My old Army buddy, Bob Williams, is in the photo. He is still alive and well.

Built by Henschel in 1941. Each axle is driven by a V2 steam motor, with 11.8" bore and stroke. Pressure was 290 psi.
Driving wheels 4' 1 1/4". Speed claimed 116 mph.
In October 1944 19.1001 was seriously damaged during an air raid on Hamburg. It was moved to RAW Braunschweig and stayed there until the end of the war. In August 1945 the locomotive was brought back to Henschel repaired and after one test run between Kassel and Wabern was shipped to the USA in October 1945. It was sent to Fort Monroe in Virginia for testing and inspection and in 1950 was moved to Fort Eustis in Virginia and scrapped there in 1952.

This is my own modification of the german V8 steam locomotive. Not many changes from the original: Oil tanks instead of a coal tender, ladders, catwalks, and an observation deck on the front (armored trains usually had their locomotives in the middle with cars in front and back), and a camouflage paint scheme.
