November 28, 3021 Subverted Selfie Project Post
November 28, 2021: well, #today has been a day. I ordered Mum’s new #television for her family room (still have to get a 4K receiver, & a 4K @AppleTV now that I think about it).
I also ordered a new #laptop, as my 10 year old #SonyVaio barely loads an #InternetBrowser. I ordered my first @Dell, a beast - an i9 processor, 32GB Ram, 17” 4K #touchscreen, 4GB SSD, & a 6GB video card. It had a great #BlackFriday discount plus 10% off for being a new #customer. I also added a 4 year #warranty that covers any issue that could ever come up.
Before buying it, I thought about trying to upgrade the #Sony but didn’t. It needs new batteries & could use a larger hard drive. Some of the keys have broken off too. Probably not worth bothering to do anything with it. I dunno. A new battery would probably cost more than I could get selling her. So it might end up in a recycling centre. I got a good 5 years out of it when I used it a lot but haven’t used it much in the last couple of years. It’s been crashing a lot too. I’ll miss her because when she was going well, it was great. Sadly, @sony got out of making laptops & desktops around 2014, which was a shame. They were excellent near the end, & were one of the few to offer the ability to create custom builds (which is why I went with #Dell, I like to max out a machine, so it will last).
I also ordered a new #iPad, as my old one is also a decade old. It’s ok, I will still use it if I’m going to the beach to read off my kindle on it. The new one will also be a good companion for my laptop, & I’m looking forward to doing digital art on it as well. I used to do a lot more new media #art on my laptop & iPad but haven’t in several years because the software outgrew the capabilities of my equipment. Creating again, & learning new #programs, I think will be good for me creatively & mentally. I also took advantage of #BlackFriday ordering the latest versions of a few pieces of software I’ve used before - like @corelpainter & @coreldrawgraphicssuite and some @photoshop plugins.
The only downside is the laptop won’t be here till January. iPad just before Christmas. Which is ok, I have a lot of other stuff to do first!
