Time Encapsulated in Eternity

While camping in the Malheur National Forest, I met Gary and his sweet wife. A former ranger and and now a good friend, Gary encouraged me to visit the Steens to take pictures. I drove up to a lake to camp. He and some of this grandsons met me the following day and gave me an insider's tour. Surreal views of mountain peaks and vast gorges surrounded us! Although it was late July, it was springtime in the mountains and flowers blossomed everywhere. Yet there were patches and sheets of snow still remaining. This is a view from the road leading up to the cell towers on the peak. Wildhorse Lake is just out of view to the right.
Incidentally, the large white area far in the distance is not snow... it is a dried lake.
