Tribute for Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation (1994) by Stephen B Whatley
One of a series of cartoon tribute drawings commissioned by Hollywood legend Elizabeth Taylor from artist Stephen B Whatley in 1994, to promote her charity, The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation.
Aside from featuring her 8th husband (1991-1996) Larry Fortensky, the charity logo, provided by Ms Taylor's office, is included on the balloon.
The year of their creation, Stephen telephoned Ms Taylor's office, at her Bel Air,CA home to check that the portfolio of his work had been received and one of her kind assistants exclaimed that they had just been looking at his drawings. On asking if Elizabeth Taylor liked them, he said "Hold on!.." - and the next voice on the line was that of Ms Taylor..." Hi! Its Elizabeth!" On Stephen's asking she said 'They're wonderful, I love them!"- and on his asking after Larry's opinion, " He loves them too!" A surreal dream!
