Aboriginal-Australian Fellowship Conference, Sydney, October 1965

by State Library of NSW

A remarkable series of portraits taken by the Tribune newspaper (Communist Party of Australia) photographer Noel Hazard at the 1965 conference of the Aboriginal-Australian Fellowship. The conference featured many leading figures from the Aboriginal community.

The conference included mostly Aboriginal speakers and delegates, many of whom were involved in the campaign for citizenship rights with the 1967 Referendum.

Speakers from rural areas in NSW were also represented, highlighting their concerns about poverty and racism.
