Commandos on skates, Sydney, 1955
Commandos on skates, Roller Derby, Sydney, 1955, by Ivan Ive. The roller derby arrived in Sydney from the United States in 1955 courtesy of Australian impresario Lee Gordon. The male and female teams were divided into two groups — representing New York and California. The sport was not for the faint-hearted — among the photos taken by Ivan Ive are skaters toppling over wooden barriers, fighting each other and being stretchered out of the stadium. from film negative, presented by ACP Magazines Ltd, 2008
