H-1 Rocket Engine
The kerosene and liquid oxygen-burning H-1 engine played an essential role in the early Apollo-Saturn programs. Both the Saturn 1 and 1B used eight of these powerful engines in their first stage booster. An H-1-powered Saturn 1B carried the first Apollo astronauts into space. The H-1 also lifted most of the Skylab mission crews into orbit. The early H-1 engines had a combined thrust of 1,500,000 pounds; by the time they were used on the Saturn 1B, the engines were uprated to produce a lift-off thrust of 1,600,000 pounds.
