The restrictions imposed by the authorities for limiting the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 forced us to adapt quickly to changing circumstances. We have been called to act responsibly and, at the same time, to stay productive. During 2020 I learned how to promptly response to the new rules and to reinvent my daily routine accordingly. It ended that I had the opportunity to work at the Polarizing Microscope at home, caressed by the warm sunlight of my home city, Salerno (Italy). From one day to the next, I simultaneously was and was not an expat. Smart working for a PhD student consists of making science at home. If you are lucky enough, you would make science at the home sweet home.
This photo displays my lockdown work station. It is composed of a Polarizing Microscope (on the left) and my notebook (on the right). Last but not least, on the desk there are my glasses and the samples to be analyzed.
