Orange is the New Blue [explored]

A flame Azalea blooming on the grassy balds at Roan Mountain State Park in the Blue Ridge Mountains with the sunset-streaked clouds above. Shamefully, this is only my second visit to the beautiful mountains of North Carolina despite having lived here for 10 years now, and my first visit as an amateur photographer.

Location and logistics planning by Kevin Benedict [www.flickr.com/photos/8310992@N04/] - thanks Kevin!

We had a spectacular sunset, unfortunately not knowing the site beforehand I spent most of my time tramping around trying to find the right vista. Perfect is the enemy of good as they say and I would have taken some better pics of the sun setting with the low-lying clouds in the valleys between the peaks had I not been so determined to find that "epic" location. However, now I know what I need to do next time!
