Bonsai!!!
On our visit to the North Carolina Arboretum, we spent some time wandering through their special bonsai exhibition garden. Bonsai is the art of taking regular plants and growing them as miniature versions in containers mimicking their natural environment. I don't think I had ever seen real bonsai before, and I found myself amazed at their detailed beauty. Each bonsai was like looking into a miniature world of it's own. The lighting conditions were not ideal for photographs (harsh sunlight), but I had to take pictures of a few because I liked them so much. The photos really don't do them justice, especially without a sense of how small they are, so if you ever get a chance to see them in person I highly recommend it. More below!
The bonsai above is a Swiss Mountain Pine from the mountains of South and Central Europe.
