The Museum of the Long Weekend organised a "caravan" of vintage caravans and cars from the 1940s, 50s, 60s and 70s to converge on Canberra on the weekend of 19-20 October 2013 to help celebrate the Centenary of Canberra. It was an amazing display, with almost all vans and cars matched by period, colour coordinated and furnished with period pieces. You could go through all the vans and we spent a lot of time talking to their owners. There were a lot of people who had restored their vehicles and caravans and they were terrific - but my personal favourite was the 1962 caravan that had been in the owner's family since original purchase and which he had holidayed in continuously since a child. Great stuff! There were about fifty caravans to inspect and they all brought back some memory from my own childhood - either through the vans themselves, the cars, or the household items that they stocked.
