Catskills Startrails 2012

Subject: Startrails 2012

Date: 2012/05/18 and 2012/05/19

Exposure: 60 x 1min = 1h, ISO 1600, f/2

Filter: Astronomik CLS

Camera: Canon T1i/500D (Hutech modified)

Lens: Contax (Carl Zeiss) 100mm f/2

Mount: "Fixed tripod" Actually, the camera is on a turned-off AP900 equatorial mount, pointed at the celestial equator, but tilted with respect to the horizon, so the stars look like they are moving straight up. Note the slanted tree to the left.

Processing: Raw converstion to TIFF using Canon Digital Photo Professional. The 60 TIFF subexposures were combined in StarStaX 0.41 lighten mode. Resizing and JPEG conversion in Photoshop.

Notes: Facing East -- stars are rising above the trees. The strange star colors are probably caused by the CLS filter combined with the modded camera that makes everything too red.
