Leaf Beetle

The Chrysomelidae family includes 35 000 species of leaf beetles that are prevalent worldwide on almost all plants. The name of the leaf beetle comes from the fact that most of the adults beetles feed on leaves. Precisely this makes these species of beetle be considered harmful. However a very small fraction of these species feed on pollen and some are used for biological control of weeds. Generally leaf beetles have an elongated body, cylindrical and sometimes slightly bent. It can reach a length of 1-3 cm, and their anthers are quite small, measuring less than half of the body length. After mating females lay their eggs in groups, in soil or on host plants. Most species have a brightly colored body, often with metallic reflections.
