These Are Houses

Yong Ding, Fujian, China

The tulou dwellings built by the Hakka people.

With some friends we visited the 3-400 year old handmade earthen dwellings about 4 hours inland from Xiamen. About 30 to 40 families live in each structure, all relatives. Many more photos to follow. The distance ones are all blue and hazy due to China's pollution. I need to get a filter! (larger size of this shows details inside, like laundry)

The set- Hakka Houses - has a lot of information and links.

Please DO SEE the long, fascinating comment below, by hinchung88 who was born in one of these houses and now lives in Indonesia. It explains so many things about these homes, the people and their history.
