Identity Swap 'Castle'..

GWR/BR 'Castle' class 4-6-0 4082 ''Windsor Castle'' at Swindon works, on a cold, grey, rainy day in the early-60s....

This loco was originally 7013 ''Bristol Castle'', but was renumbered and renamed in February 1952. The original 'Castle' class 4082 - the GWR's Royal Engine - was in the shops at the time of King George V's unforeseen death, and so the name and number were swapped with 7013.

4082 (originally 7013) was first withdrawn from service in August 1963, but reinstated a month later, and then finally withdrawn in September 1964, and scrapped in June 1965.

Eight members of the class have been preserved..

Restored from an under-exposed unfocussed grainy orange-colour-shifted original..
