AM1 at Morcambe
Ex-LNWR/LMS/BR AM1 EMU car M28221M at Morecambe Promenade station, in around 1963.
These units were converted from redundant ex-LNWR Siemens DC units that originally operated on suburban services out of Euston and Broad Street. The lines here had already been electrified by the Midland Railway at 6.6KV A/C from 1908, but that service had ended in 1952, and was later taken over for the 25KV experiments..
The 25KV experimental service service ended in 1966, and these units were all scrapped. The station finally closed in 1994, and today (2023) the main building still exists, and the rest of the site is a shopping centre and car park.
Restored from an under-exposed cyan/blue-colour-shifted original..
